The supposed "pussyfication" of our military
Mar 2, 2022, 7:58 AM
|
|
A lot of absurd ideas get stated on this board, mainly because it's a launch pad for crazies to spurt things that they wouldn't say out loud to anyone they know. It's really hard lately to keep up all of them given the volume of crazy coming out of posts by Miura and CharlestonTom.
But I'll go back to one from a little while ago when some folks here were trigged by an Army ad featuring a female soldier who was raised by same sex parents, basically because troglodyte Ted Cruz and nancy boy Tucker Carlson were triggered by it. They decried that our military was now "pussyfied" and compared it to a Russian ad that was apparently more macho and got them a little chubby. T3 especially.
Well, aside from their lack of understanding of how marketing works and, you know, critical thinking skills, let's take a look at what's happening now.
Russia has likely in one week accumulated more soldier losses than we suffered in 20 years in Afghanistan. Images and videos of Russian soldier bodies abandoned--yep, no effort to recover their dead--have sparked outrage among their people. In several instances, Russian soldiers have laid down their arms and refused to fight.
Those who cried like little babies over the Army ad or foolishly believe that our military is more focused on gender surgeries (shout out to you, Keowee) forget that Russia has a conscription system and isn't beholden to having to lure recruits to their forces. I'll start taking wagers now that those who claimed "pussyfication" have never served. I haven't, either, but I ain't over here calling our military a bunch of pusses.
One thing that's certain with this war in Ukraine, though: if we met Russia on neutral turf, our conventional forces would absolutely decimate them. There has been no "pussyfication" of the American military. It is still the greatest military force ever assembled in this history of the world, with far superior technology, strategic methods, and a fighting force who is there because they believe in what they're doing.
What a sad, sad little man it takes to look at that Army ad and cry about "pussyfication" and insult the people in our military because their marketing schemes upset their little outdated view of the world. And it must be especially hard to watch that military they claimed we should strive to emulate (because I guess Putin shirtless machoism gets them hot and bothered) get worked over by a ragtag Ukrainian civilian force working to defend their homeland.
One could perhaps even wager such fragile little egos score high on the pussyfication scale themselves.

I guess that “pussyfication” is the reason Putin has had to threaten nuclear war if we get involved? You’d think he’d be happy to see his army crush ours if he thought our army was so weak.

C'mon bud. A giant European bank was used for money laundering and a real estate developer uses leverage. Only a crazy person could see those things and not believe Trump is a Russian mobster spy.

Our military is absolutely badass. It is far superior to Ivan's. However, folks keep wanting to social engineer the military forgetting that the purpose of the military is to "break things and kill people."
We should field our best military which means having women in infantry combat roles unless they are physically built like men is dumb. It would be akin to putting a coed cheerleader on our OL. Standards should not be altered for women.
I do feel lately we are at times consumed with discussing race, gender and sex in the military, based on family I've spoken too. The goal is being prepared to kill, maim and destroy--not to even evacuate people.
But no, our military is still not a kitty.

I don't know to what extent our military is doing the things you're saying (and not doubting what you say), but I also know the military is more than just setting out to kill: it's a career and involves multiple facets of protecting our nation through teamwork. I feel we do that better than anyone. If creating a better environment for our service men and women incorporates those things you mention so they can operate better, I'm for it.

Accidental TU, however did not intend a TD either. From my 4 years in the military, 3 decades ago, I never saw a less race conscious or sex conscious place before or since. I was not in a combat role, but my role was to be prepared to patch up and return fighters to the field. Fighting and being prepared to fight is THE goal.
I had female supervisors, worked with scores of people of other races and my next door neighbors and friends were black and awesome people.
The military is much further along on racial equality and sexual equality than the society at large.
At my son's graduation from Marines OCS at Quantico, the Commandant said, " We are Marines, we kill people. You moms and dads need to understand that is what we do." Chilling words, but true.

Make no mistake, our military is far superior to any on the planet. That superiority is due to the exorbitant amount of money that is spent on hardware, technology, FUEL FOR TRAINING, etc. (that foosball wants to use for student loans).
Billions of that same budget from last year, and moving forward will be spent on "pussification" initiatives as directed by this administration. Less money for bullets, more money for "extremism in the ranks", "safe space", and "diversity" training.
America is still the best, but everything this administration does makes us more weak; whether that be the economy, the military, our borders, our future.
To quote a recent general's retirement speech: "When I joined the military we were killing bad guys, and blowing ### up. Now as I retire, we are sitting around talking about our feelings."

The pentagon has admitted China would push our chit in…
https://www.stripes.com/theaters/us/2021-07-27/US-China-military-war-game-hyten-2326077.html
I’m not saying there’s been a “pussification” of our military, but it has no doubt become way more politically focused. I’m not just talking about one ridiculous ad paid for by tax payers, there have been a number of examples, from firing those who didn’t want the vax, to generals recommending enlisted men read woke books, to focusing so much attention on one marine who was honest about the failures in Afghanistan instead of admitted to failure and fixing it.
Like any beaurocracy, being political is a bad thing. The military used to be above that. It was purely based around finding the greatest warriors, and training them to roll whoever hurt us or our allies.
Fast forward to their focus being elsewhere and we got smoked by a bunch of guys with 79 year old Russian weapons and equipment, and would get beaten badly by China. Two groups that are solely focused in terms of military on winning.

The article you link mentioned the battle test failed due to issues related to the communication network coming under attack. The article then went on to explain a focus of improving in that area. Basically, we live in a new era where cyber attacks can and will occur and our military is explaining a need to plan for that.
I'm really not sure what that has to do with being political or reading woke books.

For realz. Especially since this was an internal exercise designed for the very purpose of ID'ing our weaknesses and fixing them before the enemy did it for us.

I disagree with the concept that we've pussified our military, however, we DO spend a lot of time getting briefings/training on things that don't apply to 99% of the force. I'm a field artilleryman, our job is 100% to kill as many of the enemy as possible to support the infantry. At the end of the day, that is what every MOS in the Army/Marines job leads to: supporting the infantry.
An example of how things have changed in the last 20 years though: My platoon medic in Iraq was a homosexual, and also an EMT as a civilian. He was widely regarded in the battery as the best medic to have on mission with you, so we were lucky. He never told us he was gay, and we never asked. But we knew. And no one gave a rip, because he was good at his job, and patched us up when we needed it. When his partner passed away, about 3 years ago, many of us went to the funeral for no other reason than to support him (he had retired a while back). And not one of us had to attend any kind of diversity or inclusion training to accept him as one of our own.
