The solution

May 22, 2013, 9:55 PM

Bring home Tim Corbin. We haven't recruited the same way since he left.
Let Leggett start a softball program since he enjoys bunting and slap-hitting so much.

Sad - so few sacrifice and clutch hits

too tense?

Can't hit in the clutch. Haven't for years. Bad baserunning. Sloppy defense.
Those problems have been there for quite a few years.

Agree except recruiting has gotten much better

May 22, 2013, 10:20 PM

And defense is not that bad. Wilkinson had too tough plays but he has made too many errors over the year. However, for a coach that likes small ball, some of the players like Slayton do not know how to bunt - poor coaching. I hope the Tigers turn it around, but I see a loss coming up to the Tar Heels unfortunately!

But we don't recruit any players with power. Remember when we had guys who could hit? It has been a LONG time since that was the case.

Power isn't out there like it used to be. Look at the bat change: Jeff Schaus went from 15 homers in 2010 to 0 with the new bats in 2011. A player with 10 homers now is a rarity.

Look at Colin Moran - ACC POY. He has 13 homers on the year. In the past he would have 20 with the way he has hit this year. There are only 68 players in the whole NCAA to break 10 homer mark this year - of which only 15 play at BCS-level schools. Power simply isn't there with the bats.

The power is largely gone in college baseball...

May 23, 2013, 12:17 AM [ in reply to Re: Agree except recruiting has gotten much better ]

you'd be hard pressed to find 10 hitters in all of D1 with 15 homers. Kris Bryant of San Diego has something like 30, but he's WAY ahead of the next person. The days of 77 homers from 3 players are gone.

Really?

Looks to me there are about 50 with 10 or more homers, including two players with more homers than our entire team.

It's not "home" for Tim Corbin...

May 22, 2013, 11:53 PM

He's from the Northeast and recruits that area even more heavily than Jack Leggett does. Plus, his #1 Commodores got shut out by unranked Texas A&M, who played a 17 inning affair yesterday, earlier today.

thought MSU and Mizzou played the 17 inning game?

May 23, 2013, 12:14 AM

Iknow MSU won it and the loser would have gone home as first round yesterday was single elimination.

said it was A&M that played the 17 inning game. Maybe I misunderstood.

Ole Miss beat Mizzou in 17 innings.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We had some power hitters in the mid-90s, yes?

May 23, 2013, 1:28 AM

And none since, it seems.

If Leggett prefers small ball, that's fine, but let's get players who can bunt, steal, and get the clutch base hits with the best of 'em.
