Heyyyy I’m ok with that idea as well. Wondered why no one brought him up. Figured it was his age.

Cliff is getting up in age but would be a step above at his age of what we have now.

Cliff would sing and had a great voice. Don’t know why then the dumb AD let him go. I think it was the same one that sent Danny to the Hemp farm

Yea I didn’t remember the story of why he got let go or if he had quit just knew he ended up at Auburn for a good while. A kid my son played soccer with from Northwestern (RH) Mason Griggs was recruited to play for him at Coastal. I was unaware till then he was even coaching.

Notable NCAA issues, plus no NCAA Tournament for four years in a row.

Agreed! A few years back everyone seemed to be on the Winthrop, Wichita St. coach. Just read an article on him and did not realize Wichita St had let him go due to some investigations. Always thought he was a good one.

He has a great house on deep water, plays golf all the time. Demand isn't that great where he coaches and he loves it here. A good person and a better coach.

Barnes did more with less than was humanly possible. His “slab five” were unbelievable.

The Slab Five year was great.

An outstanding coaching job for sure.
The Sweet 16 year was really good too, obviously.
I felt that he underachieved his last two years here though. There was no excuse for losing in the first round with Buckner and McIntyre in my opinion. Those two years felt more Purnell-esque in that we were talented but ran out of steam at the end of the year.
Rick saw the writing on the wall: Buckner was graduating, McIntyre had only one more year left, and there were some key recruiting misses. He knew he was going to have a decline at Clemson, so he left while his value was high.

I was a freshman the year of the Slab Five. Merl Code, Andy Kelly, Iker Iturbe, Bruce Martin, Ihsan Scott. Buck was the only legitimate ACC level player on that team, but Barnes took them to the NIT that year and brought in some talent the next year (Big O, T-Mac, Tony Christie, Jurkunas, Wideman). Okay so maybe a couple of those guys his second year didn't qualify as "talent" but they were upgrades over most of the slab five.

Tennessee pays Barnes roughly double what we pay Brad.

Are you willing to increase our basketball budget by about $3 million a year to pay Rick Barnes?
This is assuming that Rick Barnes would be okay knowing that he would be taking over a program with much less funding than his current program at Tennessee receives. He would have to piece together a staff while paying them much less than he pays his staff at Tennessee.

The way Rick left, I wouldnt want him back. But I'd like to have a coach that can recruit and get the guys in to win consistently.
This year Ive been impressed with Hall, Collins and all others but they lose a game to BC like we did hurts. I feel for the players and coaches. We needed to win that one...had the fans, home court, weekend game, and had a big lead.
Man, that one hurt!!

Average ACC finish the last four years = 6.25
His raise a few months ago pays him tied for 6th in the ACC (tied with Pitt’s Jeff Capel).

could get the job done in the ACC.
When a coach or a player quits on Clemson, they need to stay gone.
Rick Barnes would be just another Mac Brown without the “nice guy” gene. In fact, he’d probably be more like Bobby Petrino.
No “do-overs” ...

That's the closest I have seen of anyone mentioning "Rally Cat" with regards to Barnes's exit. Nice comparison to Petrino.
