The shift to “bare minimum” talk…

Sep 28, 2021, 11:10 PM

Since when was it okay to shift to bare minimum language (not verbatim):

“A few plays differently and we would’ve won”

“Yea we played bad but it really came down to a few plays”

Seem to be hearing more of that recently.

Yes, one or two plays or calls or penalties in many of our games could’ve turned an L into a W, but this kinda talk screams “we’re ok with the minimum to win cause a W is a W”.

That’s not ok with me to hear game after game. National Championship, a hard fought game against a top opponent, sure, maybe….

Maybe it’s just politics or politeness, but seems weak to me vs “we had opportunities to be up 21 pts at half but couldn’t get it done. ” or “well, we should’ve put up 45, but played sloppy and had to settle for a walkoff FG. This isn’t acceptable and we’ll work on that”

I don’t know, maybe I’m just being grumpy….

It’s all about coddling the players you like

Sep 28, 2021, 11:15 PM

and who can help moving forward, while “disciplining” the players you don’t like and don’t want/need moving forward.

Welcome to the public face of coaching college football players in 2021.

Ha... special players have gotten special treatment

Sep 29, 2021, 10:18 AM

since my awareness of college football in the 70's, while the grunt players got their behinds handed to them.

That only appears to be the case for the get off my lawn crowd because you can best believe no one jacked Dan Marino, Hershal Walker, Archie Griffin, John Elway, Bo Jackson or Joe Greene by the facemask and yelled spittle in their face, c'mon now...

Do you really think Drew Bledsoe, Troy Aikman, Lawrence Taylor, Joe Montana, Howie Long, Chester McGlockton, Michael Dean or William Perry caught the same issues as everybody else? Not so my guy...

Yeah I agree … it’s like the statement … we are a few plays from being 4-0…which is true…but what was not said and is also true is that we are a few plays from being 1-3!!!

Also, I wonder…has Brad Brownell taken over the football program…because we have a team that plays good defense but cannot score and that makes for boring entertainment!!!

We missed on a QB recruit for the first time in a long time! Blame the O- line, Elliott, Dabo or whatever but we missed on the QB and no play call in the world is going to change a QB that can't hit a open receiver "almost never ".

Dude is so slow that it almost looks like he's running in mud, and when you are making millions in endorsements you are no longer an amateur and can be criticized.

I've seen very few open receivers this season...

also, on the first two drives, DJ dropped absolute dimes but did miss one he sailed over Ross' head because he was fleeing the pocket... just as well, he dropped that pass on the last play where Ross could catch it, but it appears to me that Ross lost track of the ball and didn't see it coming. DJ has his issues, but there was no miss with him; he may not be DW4 or Trevor, but BC and ND games last year were no fluke and he's going to be good... maybe we need to look at his (QB) coach, because his mechanics are actually in his hands or he needs to call for the change...

I hear what you are saying, but I don't think we missed per se. I just think he needs two things, more development and a halfway decent offensive line. The kid isn't terrible, just not playing great, which is what we would have to have with the play of our line and the lack of play calls to help him. Just my .02 cents
