Is it setting the bar low thinking Clemson would be in the 5-8th place to host a game at Death Valley. They should be trying to get that 1-4 seed to get the bye.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, that is setting the bar low.

We’ve been in the top 4 in 6 of the last 7 years.

Why we would start talking about being ranked 5th-12th is beyond me.

This is the guy that kept Brad Brownell...

Best obviously isn't his standard.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep. I expect to always be a Top 4 seed and nothing less!!!!

The low bar set by Neff was the statement saying "The ACC CHAMP SHOULD BE WELL POSITIONED FOR A SPOT IN THE 12 TEAM PLAYOFF" Well I certainly hope so brother considering we have been holding down a spot 6 of 7 times in the 4 team. It would have been better to say, with the change I look forward in having multiple ACC teams in the playoffs each year going forward. Clemson will be there per usual. Go Tigers!!!

He described the 12 teams differently than the report I read. Neff said the ACC Champ would not be guaranteed and I guess that accounts for upsets because the initial report said 6 Conference Champions would be included and then 6 At large teams would be picked. That model would more like the NCAA Basketball tournament and I read that to say 6 conference champions are guaranteed. I guess I read one or the other article wrong.

If we are not in the top 4 as ACC champ then we better have already left the ACC as a conference.
Hosting a game as a 5 to 8 seed should only be an option if we did not win our conference!

The SEC and Big Ten champions are virtually locked a top 4

seed and a bye.

The next two highest ranked champions will also get a top 4 seed and bye.

ACC
Big XII (Baylor, Ok St, TCU, WVU, Kansas, Iowa St, Kansas St, TX tech, Cinci, Houston, BYU, Central FL)
Pac 12 (Arz St, Utah, Calif, Standford, Oregon St, Wash St, Colorado, Arz)
American Athletic
Conference USA
Sun Belt
MAC
Mountain West

It is hard to imagine an ACC champion not locking up a top 4 seed considering that the Big XII and Pac 12 are soon to be decimated with departures of their top teams.

Lord only knows what conferences will look like by the time they actually roll this out. It may just be the Top 6 teams in the only 2 conferences remaining.

6 highest ranked conference champions was the metric before the 6 at-larges are chosen, and a top 4 seed would have to be a conference champ and not an at-large.

Six conferences champions are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. It's just that it's the six highest ranked conference champions, so no specific conference is guaranteed spot.

A 12 plus win ACC champion will never host a play-off game.

Sep 13, 2022, 5:31 PM

A 12 plus win ACC champion will be a 3 or 4 seed minimum.

Personally, it seems that Nerf is more concerned about the money that it would bring into Clemson over it watering down the playoffs!!!

Is that really likely? It seems to me that by expanding to 12 teams, even the "New Year's Day" bowls will be transformed to irrelevance, so they will be pushing to be the sites of the playoff games.
