2012 prediction

Our schedule has 8 games that we will likely be favored in and should win: ball st, furman, BC, duke, ga tech, wake, Maryland and ncst.
We have 2 toss-up games: auburn and sc.
We have 2 games we are probably not going to win: fla st and va tech.
I am assuming that we win one game we shouldn't, and lose one game we shouldn't (@ wake or @ BC are good candidates) and split the toss ups. This leaves us winning 9 regular season games. If I were a gambling man (and I'm not) I would play it safe and bet on 8 wins.

I'm not sure why we should put down VT as an automatic loss

Yes, they're very good, but we demolished them twice last year and I think that's going to mess with their heads a little bit. Also none of those players have had to play in Death Valley in what is surely the premiere conference game of the season, so you know it'll be packed and rowdy (and hopefully at night).
Frankly, the day I admit that a team can come into Death Valley and have us beat before the opening kickoff is the day I need to turn in my season tickets. As far as I'm concerned VT is tiger meat on October 20 and they're walking into a buzzsaw the likes of which they've never seen.

I agree. I think VT will have that stigma of Clemson "owning" them twice last year. They will be out for blood, but this will be a home game and the crowd is going to be a big part of it.

No game the Tigers play should ever be considered an automatic loss. We can compete with everyone nationwide...period! Don't ever count our Tigers out.

I don't necessarily disagree. There is not a team on ghe schedule qw arent capable of beatingn. I think va tech is typically very well coached and physical. I think beating them 3 times in a row will be a tall order for us, but certainly not impossible. a lot will depend on what happens up to that point in the season, but we may be a slight dog heading into the game.

but I see a 8-4,7-5 season ahead of us. Go back and look at the last 15 years or so. Every successful season was followed by a rather lackluster season. Every 2nd year starting QB has sucked. Obviously, as everyone has stated, our lines will be crucial.
With that being said, we have a plethora of talent at every position. If you're going to get us, you better do it this season. Because 2013 and beyond will be a great era for Clemson football.
Thoughts??

Im really hoping that this year's team can break those trends. This will be the first time we have had a new DC coming in after tasting some success. Also, while we won the conference last year, we left a lot on the table (orange bowl and sc). I think this team is still stinging from the OB loss. Let's hope they use it for motivation.

I'd put VT and NCSU in the toss-up category.

VT is a toss-up, but so is GT.

If we can win all of our home games, and take care of business on the road with Wake, BC, and Duke, then that gets us to 10 wins. If we do that, and split FSU and Auburn, that is 11 wins.
All of that said, my money is on 9 regular season wins if we do not have a major injuries. Also, I think the outcome of the Auburn game will have a big impact on the rest of the season, as a win gives us some confidence, which this young team really needs, but a loss could really throw us off course.
