The rich get richer: SEC dominates Rivals100 recruiting rankings

Posted by JJ Stankevitz on January 20, 2014, 1:20 PM EST

We’re still over two weeks from signing day, and there are still plenty of players yet to commit and others who will flip their existing verbal commits to other schools.

But there won’t be enough movement to dethrone the SEC from reigning over another set of recruiting rankings. A popping 38 players have verbally committed to SEC schools on the Rivals100 released Monday, far outpacing any other conference. Here’s the breakdown:

SEC: 38
ACC: 12
Big Ten: 12
Pac 12: 9
Big 12: 5
Notre Dame: 4
Mountain West: 1
Uncommitted: 19

Leading the SEC charge: Alabama (nine commits), LSU (six), Georgia (five), Tennessee (five), Texas A&M (five) and Florida (four). In other words, two SEC schools have more commits on this list than the entire Big 12. Surely Texas A&M fans won’t revel in having just as many top commits as the conference headlined by Texas, either.

Ohio State makes up for 75 percent of the Big Ten’s commits on here, while it’s surprising to see the Pac 12 faring so poorly (though coaching changes at USC and Washington likely dinged their showing).

But back to the SEC: Over a third of the best recruits in the country, at least as rated by Rivals, are committed to SEC schools. That number could grow in the next two weeks, too, and if it does it’ll surpass the 38 SEC commits on last year’s Rivals100.

Too bad it hasnt made a difference on the field lol

All that talent didn't keep them from 0-2 in BCS.

Who cares? Everyone knows they add stars for SEC commits as surely the coaches saw something the ratings agencies overlooked.

Wow SCar has the same amount of rivals 100 as a whole conference. It is the Mountian West but still that is something.

more money.

All the ACC and Pac 12 can offer at this point is a far better education.

Let me pick the Top 100 guarantee there won't be 38 in SEC

Jan 20, 2014, 5:25 PM

Will be more like 12. Don't you see how they do this? #1 determinant where a player goes - location in relation to his home.
