The reason Clemson was mentioned during the Olympics...

1

Jul 28, 2012, 3:19 AM

Bob Costas' son went to Clemson. The story was that Bob took him on a trip through the South, looking for schools. When they got to Clemson, Bob had pre-planned a meeting with Tommy Bowden during summer practice. Tommy was nice enough to let Bob Costas' son join them for practice and even gave him a head-set to listen in during the practice. At some point, from the practice tower, Bob Costas' son turned to his dad and said, "Dad, I'm going to Clemson". Apparently, his sister went to Boston College.

I lived there back in '87 & '88, my young, single days and really liked it. It's a great city, with good pro sports and cultural options. Friendly people. More weather extremes than the south, though - very hot in summer and very cold in winter.

How and in what context was Clemson mentioned?
