The REAL "oversigning index"...

Feb 20, 2013, 11:23 AM

Ole Miss has signed 105 the last 4 years. UK 105. Bama 101. Clemson 80. Scholly limit is 85. Mama, WHO IS REALLY going to take care of your son?????

four and five star guys that don't produce. You take a big risk signing with these schools. There's not a whole lot of upside other than your two minutes of fame on espn and cbs. Very few get to be lundquist and danielson's lover.

The REAL "oversigning index"...Doesn't matter how many

Feb 20, 2013, 12:38 PM

are signed. You have attrition through early draftees, transfers and flunking out, players signed one year, going to prep school then counted towards classes. the real index would be how many of these young men have their scholarships pulled and the coach says on the news at six when asked why ,"some of these guys just have to realize they're not cut out for Div 1 football" as done in Columbia last year.

Or you have Bama having to cut 10 of their players this year to get down to 85 by August. That's the real wrong in oversigning. If you have the available scholarships on signing day with out pulling someone's scholaship, bring in as many as you have room for.

The only reason the "SEC 25" rule came into effect anyway is because some schools in that conference(they're not the only ones)made it a practice to bring in as many as they could sign, then once spring ball started, cut(yank scholarships)the ones not working out.

In Clemson's case, either the kicker or McNeal(it's rumored he may be done with football because of injuries)will not be on the team next year.

in Clemson's case Shaq Lawson and Tankersley show up on Rivals list for 2 years.

I hate oversigning, but these kids have to have some idea what they are getting into right? I know some coaches will do or say whatever is necessary to get a kid to sign, but all a kid has to do is like up the commitment lists like all of us can do. I mean UGA and Texas A&M signed like 35 each this year, if I'm a recruit that's a huge red flag no matter what the coach says. And most of these schools do this repeatedly, so it's not a one off thing. I get that these are kids, but they need to do some research on their own.

Yep. No matter how "not scared of competition" they may be,

truth is that there is ONE football. Only 11 play out there on each side at a time. Othere players are "not scared of competition," either. So something has to give.

So what are their odds?

And there also should be some "reason" by the parent/guardians/"mentors" in advising these players. But some of them do not. And then there are tho$e who have ulterior motive$, not related to the player himself.

You would think this $EC practice would turn off coaches and parents so much that words of warning would get around.

Can't depend on the NCAA to do right. They are as broken as Washington.

Maybe we (Clemson) should offer the numbers to kids so they can at least know what the SEC is about.

I'm sure the coaches already do in certain ways, like showing them depth charts, graduation rates, and just their general philosophy on recruiting (only signing ~20 guys per cycle).
