This will never happen, but whatever, I like to think about conference realignments sometimes. With all the talk of the weak ACC and a game against Wofford coming up, I wanted to see what y'all would do if you could put together a 16 team power conference.
Mine is the "Southern Coastal Conference" with 16 teams and 4 pods. Each pod would rotate every year so you don't have big gaps between teams playing (like UVA vs. Clemson currently).
I came up with 14 teams pretty easily just going from Florida to Maryland, but there are room for two more so added UT and WVA.
The teams:
Miami
Florida
FSU
UGA
GA Tech
SCAR
Clemson
Duke
UNC
Wake Forrest
NC State
UVA
VA Tech
Maryland
Tennessee (?)
West Virginia (?)
The pods could be something like:
Pod 1: Maryland, UVA, UNC, Duke (old school ACC Basketball teams)
Pod 2: Clemson, Tennessee, West Virginia, FSU
Pod 3: SCAR, UGA, Florida, Miami (kinda keeps the SEC east together)
Pod 4: NC State, Wake Forrest, Ga Tech, Va Tech
What say you? I know this is dumb and most likely a complete waste of time, but whatever, I'd like to see the conferences become more regional again.

And by that WVU - UT - Clemson do not have a natural thing going. you need an overlapping region/alumni base.
If you were going to podify it, then Clemson, GT, UGA (or NC State) or coots make more sense.
VT, UT, WVU, and Maryland make more sense. The the 4 Tobacco Road Teams (or swap UVA for NC State), Then Florida, UGA, Miami, FSU.

Yeah, the pods can be worked out. I was thinking each team has a permanent rival. Clemson's would be the Coots, so they wouldn't need to be in the same pod. Anyway, yeah, this was just off the top of my head. I was thinking UT, FSU, WVA, and Clemson bc they're all more football than basketball schools. I like those 16 teams though (well, at least 14 of them) in one super conference though.

Clemson permanent rival is GT... coots have never contributed anything.

NCAA prohibits "Pods". 2 division is all you are allowed.
16 teams divides the revenue too much.
You'll rarely play most of the teams in your conference with 16 teams even with a 9 team conference schedule (which also takes away from revenue long term.
