The biggest problem I’ve noticed on offense

Today rg3 mentioned it twice during our game today and I’ve heard tons of football analysts say it over the past couple years but the route trees that our receivers run are basic and defenses have them figured out. For the first few weeks I was confused as to what was happening. Yes our oline isn’t that great BUT they have been decent in pass blocking since the Georgia game. Dj stands in the pocket and our very talented recievers get no separation and Dj is stuck with the ball in his hand. Yes Dj needs to run on some of those play and he’s improved on that since the start of the season but not 1 time this year to I recall a reciever running wide open. I do think this is an eye opener for our coaches and I believe that they can fix it but it will take an off-season because you’ll have the change the playbook. But these exact coaches have won us natties and acc championships and I believe they will make the improvements for next year. As far as this year I think we have the cards we’ve been dealt. Anyways GO TIGERS!!!

Have been called “simplistic” for years by NFL scouts. We have seemed to become even more simple..

No excitement whatsoever in this offense and very predictable. Need to use man in motion every play and try some short rollout passes.

Yes Dj has missed some throws but so have the 130 other qbs in the country but it dang sure would help to throw to a wide open Ross, ngata, ladson, or Williams. Even If he missed half the time that would still be more recievers in the open field with the ball than we have now. I don’t recall the last time I’ve seen one of our receiver score on a double move.

I don't disagree but it is funny that the same old route trees worked when we had Deshaun, Jordan, Hunter, Tee, Trevor and Travis and others and better linemen. Our talent tree is just not what it used to be.

Offense was very different, if you think Watson and TLaw just sat in the pocket hoping someone will come open, you don’t watch Clemson

The issue is the insane talent we have had at QB and WR and RB masked allot of offensive play calling issues. Even then I was like can we run anything other than a WR screen or a go route half the time.
I don’t know if DJ could get passes to these guys this year.

Offenses evolve over the years and maybe we haven’t evolved ours. Just like the HUNH was the shiny new thing 10-15 years ago and now it’s not. I’m just confused. Yes we lost Trevor ,ETN, amari, and Cornell but every reciever we have has made catches the past few years and Dj looked amazing last year and our oline is the same outside of Jackson Carmen and Cade. I understand taking a step back even but to be rank 100 and something in offense is confusing.

Our biggest problem is that we have too many problems. I have to wonder if the coaching staff is like me when I really have a lot to do. I spend too much time spinning in circles figuring out where to start. Speaking from experience just pick something, anything, and fix it. Please.

Underrated post at this point. What can you point to that is going well for this offense.

All these things you pointed out were discussed the past two seasons with Trevor bailing out the offense with his ability to throw into tight windows to receivers who developed under Jeff Scott. Elliott talked about self scouting during this off season. He failed to do anything different. Not even the things he talked about like throwing to his tight ends. He’s not going to succeed as a solo coordinator. That’s become abundantly clear.

The problem is that we are trying to set up a game winning play every play. Just play to win the game. A consistent, not special/superstar/game changer/difference-maker is what we need every play. We are better than these teams. The big plays will come naturally.

Our very talented WR are never wide open unless they burn the defense on a deep ball (rarely). Otherwise have to make a catch in traffic. Poor offense design.

I have a comment to make about you route running post

One of the things that has stuck in my head since the LSU loss, the commentary continuously mentioned the precise and creative route running to get their guys open. I kept thinking, why haven't I ever heard that about Clemson routes. I think I am interested enough to make a thread about this.
