After not being able to open porch door due to snow

Jan 16, 2022, 8:28 AM

and walking around the house with the shovel, I reassess the amount of snow here - four inches and it is six or more in drifts. LOL.

Sleeting is pelting now.

Gonna be a long, snowy day.***

Time to make some bread and milk sandwiches for breakfast, and use 3x as much toilet paper with every wipe. Y’all stay warm

my power first "blinked" at 5:15am

Jan 16, 2022, 9:17 AM

that was my cue to get my butt in gear, get up take a hot shower (in case its my last for awhile) and prep for the inevitable. Blinked a few times since then too. The area I live (North Oconee Co.), even though Oconee Nuke Plant is a few mins down the road, it's a matter of WHEN, not IF. Very well experienced in 4-5 days without power, been there, done it more times than I'd like to count. Both Summer and Winter.

Got big crock pot full of chili going, got food easily cooked/heated on the Blackstone, fireplace primed and ready to go. Batteries charged for lanterns, flashlights, radio, phone. New tires on the Jeep.

Snow is soft and bountiful here. Trees full of the fluffy stuff, postcard beautiful. Easy to shovel and clear right now, so got everything done before it ices up and gets hard to deal with.

Wind howling out there now. TV says 50-60 mph winds to blow through.
Just saw my first semi-large treelimb fall. First of many I'm sure.
Bring it on. Ready.

Edit: Literally 10 secs before posting, power went out for about 30 secs. Back on now but prolly not for long. Allright, Let's do this.

just getting started here. Sidewalk almost covered.

Jan 16, 2022, 9:21 AM

20 degrees, feels like 11 wit teh breeze. Got out at last minute and took labs for a short walk. Stay safe, guys.

Yep. Got my dog walk in early too. She’ll be pooping in the snow

Jan 16, 2022, 12:50 PM

for the next few days and will not be happy about it.

We’ll be fortunate to avoid a gift left in the house.

I got 3 dogs. All totally different vs snow......

Jan 16, 2022, 1:23 PM

All same breed (dachshund).
One is having a great time, frolicking around in it, following me around as I do outside chores, even though it's up to his neck. Hops around like a rabbit.
One will go out to do business, not much else, content lounging by fireplace.
One has been under a quilt pretty much since daylight. Wants NO part of participating in this day.

Re: Rain, Ice, Sleet, Wind

31 degrees here 15 miles north of cootlumbia. Power keeps going in and out. Did get my coffee and hot shower but it's looking sketchy at best. Not to worry! Ole Cuz can go to batteries/solar and gas cooking if need be. Got 5 gallons of petrol for the genny yesterday. I can stay off-grid until Spring! Plenty of food, TP, and pron!

Update: Power OUT! Heard transformer blow up the road. At least I'm only a mile or so from the maintenance depot. Time to put on the woolies.

Update #2: Power still out going on two hours. Cranked generator to get my recliner working. Guess I'll crank up the Coleman and heat some chilli I made yesterday. Thankfully there was enough outside light to see to wipe good. Surviving on the edge!

Neighbor has a tree down across his roof. No damage I don't think. Other neighbor drove up the road and reported tree across the par line. No service trucks on it yet. Guess they were all on other jobs when wind hit around here. Ice is slowly melting. It's hayull I tell ya!

4" of snow, sleet and wind now. Refilled some bird feeders. If cardinals could vote for Governor, Foghorn Leghorn would be in serious trouble based on the reception of my welfare program by my avian friends.
