So, we basically have to buy a virtual football card of Etienne in a Clemson uniform for him to come to Clemson?

Do we have to buy more than FL or LSU?

Didn't see this one coming.

Re: TNET: Trevor Etienne to commemorate college decision with NFT collection

Obviously uf and LSU thinking the same thing too. I'm happy for him but I hope he realizes there is no DEAL without his brother... That should mean something.

Idk. Something has to be done to curtail this mess. Not opposed to kids making money but in essence, this really is nothing more than a bidding war. Also didn't think it could be team gear.

Wonder if Dabo knew this when he talked about it.

Buying an NFT will not get him to select any school.

If he chooses Clemson, it will be thanks to his brother blazing an honorable trail
AND the CU Institution.

Re: TNET: Trevor Etienne to commemorate college decision with NFT collection

Dec 16, 2021, 6:12 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Trevor Etienne to commemorate college decision with NFT collection ]

The lawyer in me says this is clever, but all other parts of me think this may prove to be a great mistake on his part.

What we are seeing may prove to the future of college football (if it is USuC may finally have a chance) but I hope this kind of thing will prove to be an aberration rathe than the norm. Turning the recruitment process into a popularity contest greatly increases the risk a player will find himself in an ill-suited environment where his next best hope is the portal.

As a hypothetical, lets say the individual is a very capable student and athlete, could pretty well pick the college of his choice and, through the recruiting process, narrows to 3 colleges: Wake Forest, Clemson and USuC. Wake doesnt stand much of a chance even though it is arguably a better school. This leaves Clemson and USuC. Clemson is clearly the better school and program, but USC has more alumni which generally translates into more money, more fans... So the kid will wind up choosing USuC only to find himself with a relatively worthless degree in a program not known for developing talent or character, but just happens to have a rabid fanbase...and he would be one of the few players that could generate much in the way of such an auction for USC so there would be more concentration on top of all else.

I assume Etienne and others will not be bound as an actual auction would suggest, but for a few dollars up front the guy could be selling himself out of a career and good education. I think that equates to a loss for the player.

Dec 16, 2021, 5:13 PM

innovative marketers and gimmickers are going to lead to a 12-16 power team conference of purchased players and every other player will be playing elsewhere only to try to join them via the portal. Then the top half of that conference will poach the bottom half and further reduce teams capable of competing for the prize. Eventually a very select few will see any $$$ via NIL because no one likes the ones (i.e., so called losers) that can't win it all. College football as we've known it is already gone.

Re: NIL and portal along with

Dec 16, 2021, 5:19 PM

Fearful here that you may be right.

College athletics need to find a legal way to require amateur status, and then to pay the full ride for a scholarship. Kinda like the Ivy School model.

Otherwise, I fear that your dystopian outlook will indeed come to pass for ruination of the vast majority of college teams and for the vast majority of college FB players.

Lol what? Dude ran for over 1600+ yards in 2018 and 2019…was the best RB that Clemson and the ACC has ever seen..how does he get repaid for coming back his senior season? With that abysmal OL around that cut his yardage nearly in half…

ETN is self made…

Yeah, and what did Dabo do. They made him a dang good blocker. They made him a darn good receiver. Watch the NFL. Clemson utilized ETN and got him a first rnd pick. He goes to po dunk USuC or even wisky. He gets run into the ground. He might get some yards and may end up drafted... Probably in 3, 4th round. So yes, I say Clemson made him and he better be #### proud of it.

Dec 16, 2021, 6:21 PM

In all honesty, I read that and just do not know how I feel. On one hand I am delighted that these young men have an opportunity to make a little money while in school, but I hate what it is doing to college athletics and, I think, to these young men. It is almost now like they don't even have to pretend they are coming for an education ..... and that's sad. It is also sad that coaches are having to cowtow to these rules (or lack of rules) and to players who they know that their heart is more into making money than playing football. I think there are still may of them that see the value of their education and opportunities that a scholarship with give them.

I hope he comes here, but if he does, hopefully with the right attitude.

Re: TNET: Trevor Etienne to commemorate college decision with NFT collection

Dec 17, 2021, 11:53 PM

As with most things that are new, there is a lot of confusion around NFT & Blockchain technology. The announcement today around Trevor Eitenne made me jump out of my seat for joy as this is a very intelligent idea.

Maybe I can help explain why as I'm actually invested in HUMBL (which is a LOT more than just NFT's). I understand NFT's and blockchain a little so maybe I can shed some light.

1st - Blockchain is a system of recording information in a way that makes it impossible to change, hack, or cheat the system. Think of a ledger, but online (and can't be hacked/stolen).

2nd - NFTs (or non-fungible tokens) are unique digital tokens that serve as proof of ownership of an asset, and cannot be replicated.

3rd - This isn't some kinda of bidding war b/n fans of schools. Let's just get that out of the way. It's a fun chance for them to vote who they think the school will be that he will choose. His quote is just hypothetical thinking for future athletes. In short, if you Vote for Clemson, and Trevor choses Clemson, then you'll have the opportunity to purchase NFTs from HUMBL, of which Trevor will be the beneficiary.

What Trevor is doing is simply taking ownership of his Name, Image and Likeness, in a unique way, and this is a vehicle for him to do just that.

A great example is this: Getty Images. If someone is a photographer for Getty, they take a picture of Trevor Etienne committing to Clemson, they own that and can sell a license to someone use it. What Trevor is doing is taking ownership of some of his own images and/or artwork, for himself, and selling them.

Here's where it can get crazy...

Let's say a Clemson fan buys a digital picture (NFT) of Trevor Etienne for $50. Trevor can establish the NFT in a way that he gets royalties on every sale for the rest of time. Example: Let's say that Clemson fan decides to sell that same NFT 4 years later for $1000, they might pocket $900 and Trevor would receive a 10% royalty.

This is no different than a signed jersey or helmet, but now he gets a piece of the action. Sidebar: You're going to see Musicians doing with their Album cover art in the future.

100%....this is something that the Clemson staff, administration and team needs to be open to and embrace. Having a person in the PAW journey to educate about the NFT, Blockchain and companies like HUMBL will only help our players in the future and will, without a doubt, give us a competitive edge in recruiting.
