The one really relevant thing from Auburn - LSU

Jan 7, 2020, 3:17 PM

LSU had 8 scoring opportunities* and only came away with 3 TDs and 1 FG for 23 points. Their other 4 drives down in Auburn territory ended in a punt, a 4th down stop at the 29, another 4th down stop at the 1, and an INT.

Auburn definitely did not shut down the LSU offense. They did hold them to 7.6 YPA and 5.8 YPP overall which were probably both season lows for LSU (but still pretty good), but LSU still gained over 500 yards and really dominated the game statistically. What Auburn did though was play great "red zone" defense.

Guess who else plays elite red zone defense? Our very own Clemson Tigers. Just like Bama last year and Ohio State this year, I really think LSU will move the ball on us and likely generate 500+ yards. Their offense is just too good to pretend like we will shut them down. But just like Bama last year and Ohio State this year, LSU may have trouble finishing those drives off with TD's and that's how Clemson can win this game. As long as they aren't torching us over the top for long TDs, i think the defense will give us a chance to win.

*I use the SP+ definition of a scoring opportunity which is a 1st down inside the opponents 40. I think this is much better than the typical red zone stat because you can obviously score points without getting inside the 20.

I watched that game last night

Auburn DL was mostly owning LSU's OL. Burrow was able to get the ball out quickly, and Auburn basically forced them to dink and dunk most of the game.

If Aubie had even an average offense, they could have won. Bo Nix might have moxie, but accuracy-not so much.

I couldn't agree more. And I think their defense is not as good as either Alabama (last year) or OSU.

yep. It should be the difference in the game
