It's not about realignment, per se...

But capitalizing on the ability to effectively 'brand' for NIL 'compensation'. Saban said/proved as much with the Young remarks and relating it to Bama's brand. 7-figures...let that sink in.

It's hard to believe it will stop at simple 'realignment' without revisions to conference members' respective value to the overall group. Simply dividing equally isn't good economics. How the handicapping is done, who knows...we can all have thoughts, no doubt.

Ultimately, the weekly match-up opportunities will carry the freight in a conference's make-up. For Clemson, in all honesty, the yearly schedules have been uninspiring. While we can say the other members need to up their game...that's easy to say, but the current environment is going to make that much, much more difficult.

It's really hard to see a lot of promise in the future for Clemson, without some gut-check change...and 'out of the box' thinking by the University leadership. Perhaps the answer is football only conferences, then all else. The money suggests that...too.

The NCAA, and conferences, as least as we have always known

Jul 24, 2021, 12:46 PM

them, are pretty much relics of the past when it comes to college football. They have been effectively, albeit gradually, neutered. The landscape has changed so dramatically that while they still exist, their purpose and power to dictate and regulate anything whatsoever is totally different from what it was 30, 15, or even 5 years ago. The singular driving force behind every decision effecting college football at this point is money. PERIOD. Nothing else really matters at all., and there's no pretending anymore that it does. Football conferences are nothing more than groups that agree to align themselves for no other reason than to maximize $$$$$. Academics, student involvement, fans, tradition, ethics, none of that is given any consideration whatsoever.

College football is fast becoming a relic of the past, if the moment hasn't already passed. What we will soon have is semi-pro football affiliated with certain schools. I'm not too keen on watching that.
