The Michigan guy getting a trip to Heisman ceremony

Dec 6, 2016, 8:19 AM

solidifies to me that thuggery is becoming a prerequisite ... what has he done again ?

He was a no-show in their biggest game.

eh, he's pretty much been their entire team

Dec 6, 2016, 8:26 AM

he plays every position and is probably a lot of fun to watch.

Maybe he doesn't have CJ Spiller talent but CJ was always fun to watch in different positions.

CJ Spiller had bad games also. And CJ never played 10 different positions. TEN! Think about that for a second. Win or lose, Jabril Peppers absolutely has a right to get that invitation. Personally, I've never heard of a player in my life that could play 10 different positions, especially at the D1 level and competitively.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

but he isn't good at everyone of those positions...

Dec 6, 2016, 11:53 AM

He is just ok at his main position on defense. A few good plays here and there doesn't make a player great. Michigan is just moving him around due to lack of depth. Michigan has overachieved the past two seasons.

Hit a Buckeye fan after the game

Couldn't agree with you more. My take on the five is Lamar is probably clear winner because of his momentum going into November and ESPNs hype along the way. Therefore we have a four way, regional bias split for #2 &3 that's so close they couldn't just invite 2.

1 interception
1 punt return TD; 3 total TDs
74 yards rushing vs. Rutgers; 167 total rushing
48 total tackles

that's about it.

Re: The Michigan guy getting a trip to Heisman ceremony

Dec 6, 2016, 8:49 AM

Lol, exactly. In the Michigan gsme alone he had:

LB 42 plays
CB 12 plays
Nickelback 9 plays
Wildcat QB 6 plays
Safety 1bplay
H-back 1 play
WR 1 play
Kickoff Returner 1 play
Punt Returned 1 play
AND played on FG block team.

That's beyond staying busy & well-rounded; it's unheard of.

And Jameis allegedly raped a girl, shot a BB gun on campus, stood up and screamed "grab her right in the #####" on campus, AND stole crab legs from a local grocery store.

And Manziel... etc.

That whole "with integrity" part of the Heisman requirement lost its luster many moons ago.

I don't think the real Manziel wasn't known to most voters when he won as a freshman. I'm not sure the real Manziel was know to Manziel at the time so I give voters a pass on that one.

Also, 'grab her in the #####', crab legs, happend after JW won the Heisman. Not sure of timing of BB guns, etc.

11/25/12:

911 is called in complaint of two men drawing guns on bike path at FSU. Winston and another man are handcuffed after saying they were shooting squirrels with a BB gun. They were released without charges. 3 hours later, a BB gun battle ensues in a parking lot causing $4000 in property damages. Cops arrive, property manager doesn't press charges, team says players will pay for damages.

12/7/12:
Winston accused of rape

7/21/13:
Winston steals a soda from a Burger King after asking for a water cup. Police arrive. No charges filed.

12/13/13:
Winston wins the 79th Heisman and becomes the youngest ever to win the award.

4/29/14:
Winston steals $33 worth of crab legs from a supermarket. He's suspended from baseball team until he completes his community service.

5/20/14:
Winston is a no-show at his rape hearing. Says "no one told him to be there".

9/16/14:
Winston is seen jumping up and down on a table screaming the above-mentioned obscenities. He apologizes and fisher suspends him for the first half against Clemson.

All in all, sounds like a great kid, regardless of the timeline.

my high school had players that did that ... Michigan should

Dec 6, 2016, 8:56 AM [ in reply to Re: The Michigan guy getting a trip to Heisman ceremony ]

add more depth to their roster so they don't overwork the poor fellow.

Re: my high school had players that did that ... Michigan should

Dec 6, 2016, 9:11 AM

Lol. We did the same in high school but even then, ten positions? Can you imagine having a linebacker on our team that could play 9 other positions well? We're fortunate that Jalen williams can play all 3 linebacker positions.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

so being on the field a bunch is Heisman worthy?

Dec 6, 2016, 9:40 AM [ in reply to Re: The Michigan guy getting a trip to Heisman ceremony ]

OK.

Re: so being on the field a bunch is Heisman worthy?

Dec 6, 2016, 9:45 AM

You obviously don't know the definition that is used for the Heisman. Anyone can be "put on the field" to play any position. We can ask Ben Boulware to return kicks if we want but I'd wager everything I love that he wouldn't compete at the level Jabril Peppers does at every position. Why is anyone even arguing this point? The kid can play every single position on the field WELL! Some kids take 3 years just to remember the playbook at quarterback. Give me a break Scooter

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you need stats of note to be an MVP

Dec 6, 2016, 9:53 AM

Something, anything. I see almost nothing there.

Christian Wilkins played on almost every team Clemson fielded - defense, offense, kick, punt, etc. He caught a TD pass. Does he deserve a Heisman nomination?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thuggery? When has gotten into trouble?...

Dec 6, 2016, 11:50 AM

He shouldn't be a Heisman candidate, but I've heard nothing about him getting into trouble.
