Lol, stupid republicans

May 23, 2022, 3:54 PM

They tried to enact Jim Crow 2.0 and it ended up in record turnout. They can't do anything right.

an issue once race (or sexuality now) is assigned to it is really dangerous to our political system.

That's really just about everything right now.

Like critical race theory opposition.

There is/was a lot more to the CRT objection...

May 23, 2022, 4:54 PM

than to the Ga Voter Law, IMO.

Sure, some used CRT as a boogie man, but there are also very real concerns and efforts to promote it. It isn't just made up.

Were you saying there's more objection with CRT as a concept or with it supposedly being taught in schools?

Definitely yes....

May 24, 2022, 6:37 AM [ in reply to Do you think the bill was necessary?*** ]

For both real and perceived reasons.

The GOP wrote and passed the bill, which makes the claims of voting system favoring dems less likely.

A few changes that were needed off the top of my head:
- mail-in ballots only sent to ppl that request them and info cannot be prefilled
- mail-in ballots require ID and not signature match
- easier State correction of county election boards. So much has been made about long voting lines in urban areas, but it isn't mentioned that the county controls how the polls are set up, etc...
- added and additional day of early voting (biggest improvement in my opinion)

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

probably helped the huge early turnout for today's primaries***

What issues were there that necessitated those changes?

May 24, 2022, 4:56 PM [ in reply to Definitely yes.... ]

It was one of the more scrutinized states for the election and nothing of note (fraud) was found, so why make the changes? What reason did the GOP have to push the bill so hard?

What are you saying with "because GOP wrote/passed the bill, it makes a voting system favoring the dems less likely."? I'm not arguing against the point, just trying to understand what you're trying to say here.

Changes:
-Why make these changes? What problems were there with the 2020 election that makes these changes necessary?

-Agree with you about the early voting and glad that was added after earlier drafts of the bill received criticism.

-The bill also limited drop boxes (which has resulted in less mail-in voting in the primaries) and took power away from the secretary of State and gave it to the legislatures as a swipe at Raffensperger not doing what Trump wanted.

My argument boils down to the bill has two perceived consequences. 1)It will make elections more secure by instituting more restrictions on voting and 2)Those restrictions are a burden and obstacle to voting. It's my opinion then that if there is a consequence that #2 happens, then there needs to be an obvious and clear case of #1 happening and, if there isn't, then it's a bad decision.

I don't think there has to be proof of fraud to improve...

May 24, 2022, 5:32 PM

the system to guard against it.

The line about too passed bill means that hopefully it will reduce the perception by (too) many republicans that there was fraud in the election...meaning upcoming elections. And the changes to mail in rules were very reasonable imo.

The legislature being able to supplant the sec of state in certain issues was overblown imo and the changes to the ability to step in locally was sorely needed.

Having mail-in ballots mailed to everyone is simply stupid...and it sure doesn't require proof of fraud to fix. It's like waiting to change your password of "1234" until someone logs into your bank account and steals your money.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If makes harder to vote, it needs to show reason to do so.

May 24, 2022, 8:10 PM

Again, We know it'll make things harder to vote (which is different than saying it'll keep people from voting) with certainty. By the nature of making something "more secure," it places obstacles to entry.

What we don't know is that it makes things more secure. And if you couple that with the extraordinary results in the numbers that voted in 2020 AND the countless audits of the election that proved it was done safely the only conclusion I see is that it was unnecessary.

Why do it if it's unnecessary? Why would the Republicans want to make these changes so quickly after the 2020 election when the result was extraordinarily positive?

Politics.

It's the same reason the election was audited and why they punished the Secretary of State that wouldn't "find 11k" votes. Making it harder to vote under the banner of "security" when it's just been proven there is no security threat is disingenuous.

IMO.

I also don't think mailing everyone mail-in ballots is stupid or unsafe. A number of states have been doing it for years without issue.

May 23, 2022, 8:29 PM

Here is another case that begs the question - are there any democrats with a memory? Do they remember what they said, what they read, what they agreed with when the POTUS and others attacked the GA law?

So, the bottom line results are in and it was all bullchit. Bullchit I say.
