paraphrasing Coch Spillah's game plan for the RB's. There were bright spots, but there were also a lot of brown spots too.

I think the backs did fine. I think what wasn't fine was the OL, particularly the right side. If I had to guess, the backs mostly went where they were supposed to when the linemen didn't. I still think two weeks of tune-up games helps that a lot.

I wish we would have forced the issue more.

Shipley had 10 carries. Pace only had 5. DJ had 13! (that may include sacks). If you are going to split running and passing evenly I don't understand why you run your non-dual threat QB more than your stud running backs.
That said, playcalling seemed better than last year.

Some of those were DJ calling his own number, though.

Which is also a problem. Someone needs to have a conversation with him about how often he tries to run.

Awkward and unsteady on his feet. Even the new, improved, slimmer DJU reminds me of my FIL's dog when he runs.

Most puppies have much better ball security.

CJ had all the RB's around him getting them prepped.
"Ok, gametime, here we go. So what's........hey, Shipley....you got something you wanna share with the rest of us? No? Then ST-FU and listen unless you wanna be spending your Saturdays helping Lyn-J move to his next college.
Anyways, here's the plan. When you get the ball, run. When they go "whoom" you go like "pow" like we practiced. You see the LB go "yo", you hit it like "snap". They go "yee", we go "wee". Got it?
Last thing, whatever you do, don't run behind that no blockingass Miller unless you wanna be drinking all your meals thru a straw."

If we don't have a passing game, the RB's will always be bad

It all starts and stops with DJ and the pass. We don't have to pass it all game like Tony Elliott did when things got bad. BUT, if we can't complete 4 or 5 deep passes to keep a defense honest, and DJ is off, the RB's are sitting ducks for the defense and will not produce. It's not like well, DJ had a bad day, lets start running the option and line, yeah, you start chop blocking for the option. We run a spread offense, everyone does really. But that is predicated on at least SOME passing success.
All that being said, I get SO frustrated when we're 1st and goal on the 5 and simply refuse to pass the ball OR run outside the tackles. We need a sweep or triple option play for those 1st and goal situations.
