I have the perfect solution to the NIL mess we are seeing. Allow the universities with the most rabid and wealthy alumni to form their own semi-professional league—call it: The League of Extraordinary Athletes or LEA. I propose a 10-member league consisting of the likes of of Texas, Texas A & M, LSU, SMU, Oklahoma, USC (the real one), UCLA, Oregon, UNC and Ohio State. The league would only have inter-play, there would be no playing of NCAA teams (where there are real student-athletes.) It would have its own governing body which could cap the number of bought players at say 20 players per year. There would be no salary cap or performance enhancing drug testing at all. The league would function strictly for the playing of 18-21 year old men and as a feed in to the NFL. There would be no fake classes (none of the useless ”studies” classes) or even any classes at all. The players would be allowed to practice 8 hours a day all year long, given PEDs and steroids and expert training. They would play on Tuesday on TV as that is not traditionally a football night. Once these 200 paid athletes get drafted from high school and get their millions, the NCAA can return to making college football an amateur sport again. Problem solved, we would have the NCAA, the NFL and now the LEA-- everyone happy.
