So so sad. He was one of my favorite players of all time. Remembering watching that Maryland game on that cold Saturday afternoon with my dad. That block was one of the most devastating hits I ever witnessed. The Terps helmet literally exploded. Godspeed #42! Gone too soon.

As a side note, it was the following week after that Maryland game that we were placed on probation by the NCAA and had the penalty extended by the ACC.

KB. The 82 game was in Maryland. We were placed on probation the next week right before we played the coots.

Love that clip. Clemson and Maryland hated each other. That block would draw flag today. I remember that long run he made right up the middle against GA.

RIP Tracy.

If you didn’t like the way he played the game you don’t like football. Always a Tiger. I can’t say anything more special than that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Tracy was a friend and great guy.

2

Apr 13, 2023, 3:15 PM

Always happy, smiling, positive. A really good person.

Man we had so many studs at tailback and fullback during the Ford era. And all of those guys were good friends and incredibly unselfish. We rotated two and three guys at tailback and fullback, sometimes more.

People hated 3 yards and a cloud of dust, but halfway through the third-quarter the other team would be worn out and we would start crushing people.

People forget from the mid-70s through the early 90s Clemson also always had a great OL. That has been the single biggest weakness at Clemson since Danny Ford. Tommy Bowden and Dabo could never get that figured out. And that’s why our office is so inconsistent at times. It’s also why we lost to Pittsburgh and other games we should’ve won. It’s why we lost to Notre Dame in South Bend when DJ was a freshman. Under Dabo we can’t get a yard sometimes when we need it to put a game away. We seem to be getting better players, but I still have concerns about the OL coaching.

Bruh, the thread is about a player dying.

Tracy was just consistent on short yardage situations whether he carried the ball or not.
Sometimes you just new the ball was going to him .....but it was just the way they gave it to him....he seemed to be guaranteed 3 yards...and sometimes he would get more because he was a strong enough kid back then to break poor tackling attempts.

He deserves all the honor.

I hear ya, brother. I lost my dad and my brother to cancer and my mom had it before other sickness actually took her. Scary that it runs in my family, but I still run my mouth or my keyboard just the same. Sadly

Also, sorry for your losses as well.

Re: TNET: Former Clemson fullback passes away

Apr 14, 2023, 11:10 AM

I'm extremely sorry for his family, his friends and the over all Clemson community. Tough loss.

But, also, I miss those days of a fullback, the big powerful back that explodes into the hole and carries potential tacklers. The day of the FB and partly the TE are long gone. The NFL still uses the TE very much, but even HS ball is less oriented towards the TE and the FB just because of these spread offenses.
