Tigers Run Past 'Decs, 28-10
In 1991 Ken Hatfield's second group of Tigers came into its annual bout with Wake Forest at 4-1-1 and #16 in the country, while Bill Dooley's fifth and penultimate Demon Deacons team came in 1-6 and in the throes of a six-game losing streak.
Quarterback DeChane Cameron guided the Tigers' option attack that included running backs Rodney Blunt, Ronald Williams, and Rudy Harris, as well as speedy receivers Terry Smith and Larry Ryan, behind an offensive line led by Bruce Bratton, Jeb Flesch, Stacy Seegars, and Curtis Whitley.
The defense boasted a roster chock-full of stars, including defensive linemen Rob Bodine, Brentson Buckner, and Chester McGlockton, linebackers Levon Kirkland, Ed McDaniel, Wayne Simmons, and Ashley Sheppard, and safety Robert O'Neal. Clemson ended the day on the correct end of a 28-10 ledger, and would finish the season as ACC champions at 9-2-1 (6-0-1) and ranked #17/#18 in the AP/Coaches polls.

the georgia loss that year might be one of the worst ever...

Clemson was loaded on defense and had a terrible offense. We lost to a Georgia team that had a freshman quarterback in Eric Zeier that had a coming out party on us. I still think if had an average to above average offense we can win that game. 1990 and 1991 are definitely years that Clemson fans say "what if".

If we had any offense at all in 1990 and 1991..........

I don't see us losing a game in the regular season. We lost to Tech in 1990 because we settled for field goals and got stopped on downs. And the Georgia loss in 1991 was more offensive woes.

but there is really no proof that Danny would have done any better. He was good for at least one bad loss a year and in '90 we finally lost to maybe the best UVA team ever on the road and then to the eventual national champion...again on the road. In '91 we'd love to have at least one of the UVA or UGA games back but still had a shot at the top 10 had we not been blown out in the Citrus. I guess we could have been better offensively.
But you could make an argument Danny blew title shots in '87, '88 and '89 with a few losses he'd love to have back.

We did beat UGA 34-3 in Death Valley in 1990. It was talent,

not great coaching. Hatfield was awful at recruiting. We struggled in 1992 and 1993. Tommy West did not help either. The 1994 loss to SCAR in Death Valley was hard to watch.
