The Gamecawks are, sadly, the most...

Nov 30, 2017, 3:56 PM

Insecure fan base in sports. I say "sadly" because it's gotten to the point where I feel sorry for them.

I've never seen or heard of a fan base that demands more coddling or adoration than SCAR.

-They fall all over themselves to convert people who just moved to the state. They lose their minds if a Clemson fan tries to also persuade them. I had a coworker who moved here and the Gamecock coworkers pressured him to start attending SC games. When I suggested he check out Clemson as well, they lost it. One even shouted, "NO!" I just shrugged and said to the new coworker, "See? We're not desperate. Join us if you want. If not, we don't care."

-They lost it if they don't receive equal or more attention than Clemson in the media, especially the closer you get to Columbia. When I lived in the Upstate, I recall on WCCP how Gamecock fans would repeatedly call in during the middle of a Clemson discussion (on a Clemson network) and try to derail the conversation by changing the topic, usually to them.

-They're obsessed with getting Clemson fans to pull for them in big games under the guise of "state pride". Did any of them pull for us against Bama? No. It was the usual SEC, SEC, SEC. But when they played in the Final Four, I knew many who were upset I wasn't pulling for them to cheer on the state of South Carolina.

-If we beat them in football, they're going to construct a narrative to take attention away from the stomping on the field. You're seeing it right now. Even after their fanbase embarrassed them on national TV, they've twisted the narrative to blame our players for the Victory Walk. Last year, when Dabo calls timeout to honor our senior stars, they change it to be a slight to them. They think it's all about them and they're going to invent something stupid to detract from the win.

-They'll hurl horrible insults at our fanbase, our team, our players, and our coach, but the moment any of those entities respond or brag about a win, they get butthurt and call us classless. They're as ugly and insulting to Dabo as possible, but the moment he jabs back a little, they lose it. And no fanbase gets more angry when you give them a little ribbing. Try it with your Gamecock friends. Listen to the crap they talk before they play Clemson, then give them a little hell afterwards. Watch their temperature rise.

-Their insecurity and cognizant inferiority to us has boiled over into irrational hatred. Clemson fans, as a whole, look at SC as something silly. Something to be ridiculed. Something to not take overly seriously. To the SC fanbase as a whole, we're something to loathe, despise, and destroy. Something is extremely wrong with them as a whole with this mentality.

-They spin everything and anything to equivocate their school with our accomplishments. Point out that we're better overall in academics, and it's "Well, it depends on what you go there for!" or "But we have the #1 international business school!" Sports? I've had some try to argue the women's basketball title was just as important as our football one (I don't think I have to explain why it's not, but it basically boils down to which one actually brings in money to the school). Or they try to cite equestrian titles to show they have more national championship (the NCAA doesn't award equestrian titles).

How such a mentality of desperation and a need for coddling started, I don't know. I assume this attitude has existed for decades as Clemson has continued to separate themselves from SC, so they just simply learn it from their elder Gamecawks.

Why did we need to drop 56 on em last year?

Nov 30, 2017, 4:12 PM

Wasn't necessary, but it sure was fun to pile it on.

I don't feel the least bit sorry for them...

Nov 30, 2017, 4:14 PM

In fact, it's quite the opposite.

I am a firm believer they are deserving of every manner of hardship, calamity, misfortune, adversity or affliction that can possibly befall them.

I can think of none who are more dervrving.

i kinda feel for the ones that were born into a gamecock family. but, the ones that chose to be gamecocks... that's on them. ESPECIALLY the ones that were born into a clemson family and chose to rebel... i know a few.. now THEY deserve it.

Grew up in NC and went to school at Clemson. Can easily say Usuck and NC State are identical. Massive inferiority complex - just different shades of red(headed step children)

Pathetic, sad little creatures who seem pity worthy, but hide a viscous nastiness that pops up time to time showing their true nature. Of course, the ring they seek that warps and tortures them with envy and hate is our NC ring.

It's never too late to repent but apparently they continue to create their own misery. Not sorry for them at all.

Cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias

Nov 30, 2017, 4:53 PM

Two real conditions rampant among Coots, rampant all over these days really, but doubly so among that fanbase.

Here’s a link that might help stabilize sanity after any perilous attempt to understand these chicken-brain fools:

On pulling for the gamecocks when we're not playing them...

Nov 30, 2017, 5:19 PM

The best one I've heard yet was a caller on WCCP during rivalry week. He said his wife was a converted Coot who became a die-hard Tiger fan. At church one Sunday a neighbor told her, "You should pull for South Carolina when they're not playing Clemson." She replied, "When you're not at church, do you pull for the devil?"

Mic drop.
