It was at 3:00 on a Sunday. We had to sit literally in the front row necks bending up because it was so packed.

It was North Vs South in the Civil War. One side had to cheer for the Yankees and the other side the Confederates. And then the South won at the end. It was fun as a child and I bet they stopped doing it when people felt offended.

Not surprising. I never walked out of that place spending < $100. If it has stayed open, it would cost half again as much by now. $150 to go eat and see a movie?
Nawthanks.

Of course, the MCU and Mario are huge, but movies for grown-ups seem to have disappeared.
Although we had gone to fewer in the era of streaming, I bet I have gone to... no more than five in the COVID+ era, and all without the missus.
And when I look back, I can still remember the single weekend in (checking IMDB) 1999 when, on consecutive nights, we attended Magnolia, The End of the Affair, and The Talented Mr Ripley, on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night. And that was a great weekend - three great movie for adults!
I had thought that the streamers would replace them but the content would still be solid, but the streaming services are struggling to make money.

that the studios need to start making stuff to draw other than comic book fans to the movies. But still stands, judge the parking lot rather than the one, surely depressing, movie that you saw.
Pretty sure the last movie I saw in a theater was The Dead Don't Die.

People are still willing to go to the theater but Hollywood needs to produce more stuff that people want to see.

This is the real issue. We've got a few high-end "restaurant theaters" here that do well. Eat at the restaurant before the movie, or after, or just have them bring the meal to you during the movie. But the movie has to be good enough to go to in the first place.

I have been a bit of a movie buff. Our local theater didn't make it through COVID and I miss it. In truth, adult life saw me not going as much as I would have liked, except for children's movies, but when the theater closed I thought about all of the movies I'd seen there that reflected the times...I saw Roger Moore play James bond. I saw Clint as Dirty Harry and as a cowboy. Saw the first Star wars movies there, the Bidding Place, Rambo, Rocky and Schwarzenegger movies, Disney movies and plenty more. I think, I hope there is still a market for movie theaters, but going to the movies is ###### expensive... I've got a large screen and a nice home theater set up... it'll take a movie worthy of the cost and getting it off my recliner to get me back in a theater and few seem worth it anymore.

Plus, as long as HS kids date, I expect them to survive.
Agree with the earlier poast that we need better movies. Last 1 I saw was Top Gun Maverick.
