Funny how we complain about commits who decommit..

Jan 17, 2013, 11:01 AM

...and chase other commits. According to one source this guy is already committed to NC State.

I guess by "hottest" the AJC means he finally has a lot of schools calling.

The difference is we aren't the coaches.

Jan 17, 2013, 11:02 AM

The coaches aren't freaking out about decommits. They're getting back out there and stealing other schools.

Also, the coaches don't care about being pursued

Jan 17, 2013, 11:04 AM

it's committing then visiting elsewhere. You want to visit elsewhere? De-commit from us first, then sure you can visit.

It's just a way to honor the commitment. You want to take other visits? No big deal, just don't give us your word yet.

Decommitting from Clemson after your dad gets a job at you new university is different. If I remember correctly NC State had a coaching change, that's a valid reason for decommitting.

I wasn't really thinking about coaches.

Jan 17, 2013, 1:31 PM [ in reply to The difference is we aren't the coaches. ]

I get that coaches have to be aggressive, proactive, diligent, etc. My thought was more focused on how so many here complain about decommits but sometimes get excited when we chase after someone who is already committed, especially if they have potential.

To me the whole commitment scheme is pretty useless. I see it the same as a "Facebook like". It means at most that a kid thinks highly of a program and wants/gets an offer. It isn't really a commitment at all.

maybe the problem isn't with the kids

Jan 17, 2013, 12:54 PM

maybe it is with the schools. Coaches put pressure on these kids to commit on the spot. That is the name of the game, first to get that verbal. If you want to make sure a kid is a lock, then don't pressure him into committing.

It's a sportswriter's opinion, but it seems tied to ....

...how many schools are chasing him, too.
