Selection Criteria for NCAA Tournament?

1

Apr 23, 2023, 8:29 PM

What is the general rule for getting selected for the NCAA? I understand a lot of it is selective, but I have heard it said 40 wins in general? Is that accurate? I know you can get in with less as a conference champion. Does RPI play a factor? I really don't know what the goals should be so chime in guys and help me out.

Job#1 is still to qualify for the 12-team ACC tourney.

We’ve only recently climbed out of the cellar at the 13/14 spot.

We’re playing pretty good right now, but all four of the ACC teams have yet to face are playing well too.

Yes I get that and we might not make it anyway. But my question is what is the criteria? Does anyone know? Let me phrase it this way.. what is the criteria for Generic Team X to make it to the tournament?

we jumped way out of the cellar this weekend. got to keep it up for sure. if you were to check scores you might see that lewisville and unc got swept this weekend. vpi won 2 of 3.

Way too early to even think about the NCAA. We have 4 more series in the conference and are fighting back to just get in the ACC Tournament. No doubt we are playing must better and have to continue doing so. Right now there are 5 teams with at least 12 ACC wins and 8 teams with 8-11 wins. We have 9 wins and have a series against 3 of those teams with 8-11 wins so we control our own destiny. When we make the ACC Tournament we have a shot at making the NCAA if we win our Pod.

The cutoff is no where close to 40. The field

expanded to 64 a while back. The SEC and ACC are always the best 2 baseball conferences. They get 9-10 teams often. Teams in the low 30s in W with strong RPI/SOS even high 20’s in Ws on occasion get in. We’re in good shape. Basically play .500 or better here on out and we should be just fine.

Just a couple of examples from last year - FSU

was a #3 seed in a regional at 33-23. Ole Miss was a #3 seed in a regional at 32-22. Ole Miss by the way went on to win the National Championship.

We’re in good shape right now. Projections done this week should have us in. Also, playing better in the 2nd half is much more valuable than the hot start last year that we then stumbled on. Lot of baseball left but seems we are peaking and getting some key players back at the right time.

A .500 or better record in the ACC. We’ve never missed the tourney since expansion with a .500 or better ACC record.

Monte’s first season we had to sweep Notre Dame, on the road

… in the final series of the season to squeak into the 12-team field.

Then we proceeded to win the title.

That was pretty cool.

Goodness no. 40 wins is regional host territory. Depending on SOS and RPI 33-23 can get some teams in. Ole Miss was around that last year, was literally the last team in the field and won it all

That seems to be what everyone is saying. I really didn't know. For years I never paid attention to that part of the game because we always went to the tournament and if we didn't I knew we would the next year. After missing it for two years I was curious. I would like to go back to not having to worry about it lol. Thank you for your help.
