The CFP Scenario No One Talks About, But Maybe They Should

Dec 2, 2018, 7:12 AM

Clemp's CFP Rankings

1. Alabama (13-0, SEC Champs)
2. Clemson (13-0, ACC Champs)
3. Oklahoma (12-1, Big 12 Champs)
4. Ohio State (12-1, Big 10 Champs)
5. Notre Dame (12-0, Independent and fully served notice it is meaningless. I know this will not happen, but it should.)
6. UGA (Can't blow a 14 point lead to the 2nd string QB. Also, you can't have a complete moron of a coach. His recruiting gets him a pass with the UGA fan base for now.)
7. Who cares at this point ...

Talking Points
--------------
1. CFP takes the easy, but necessary route to reestablish to all that conference championships are important. It would be an easy decision this year because you have the win/lose records at the conference championship level to justify it.

2. Conferences need to band together and kill ND's independent status. The current Power 5 Conference plus one (ND) model cannot stand. This would do it. Hello ND/ACC. Hello another round of Expansion Craziness as many would love to be ACC #16 with ND. Think about how fun Clemson vs. ND would have been last night for the ACC Championship?

3. CFP Match-ups would be awesome - Bama vs. OSU & Clemson vs. OU.

4. Sugar Bowl could be UGA vs ND in the "Cry me a River" match up. Actually would be the best non-CFP bowl game to watch.

5. Methinks Herbie pulled the short stick and was assigned to promote the UGA talking point to help stir up viewership for a 4 hour show today. Again, they blew a 14 point lead to the backup QB. We used to call that a collapse.

Just my one cup of coffee thinking this morning.

Moonpies & RCs to you and yours,

Clemp

Agree. Conference championships have to mean something. If not you are seriously changing CF. As far as Notre Dame, the concessions they are given by the ACC and the NCAA has never made sense. It's time for them to have the same rules as everyone.

It should be Bama, Tigers, ND and UGA. But...it won't be. It will be OK in at #4. OSU cannot and will not survive the drubbing by Purdue and gift against Maryland. Committee would not survive a UGA selection. I know, I know, I know...they are not supposed to worry about optics, politics, etc. but give me a break, all that comes into play. One thing is for sure, this year will result in a play-in game and even maybe an expansion to 8 teams.

Bama should not have to beat UGA again. Also im sure all the people who assume UGA is better than OSU or OU thought they were much better last year but it took OT for them to beat OU. OU and OSU can compete/beat the other top teams if they play well. I think it should be Bama, Clemson, ND, and OSU but I think it will be OU and not OSU. I could see them both passing ND but I doubt it.
