The behavior of students

Aug 22, 2020, 6:58 PM

As they return to campus all over America will determine if football will be played next month. Unless kids have changed since I was a college student there will not be a season. It’s already beginning to show on a number of campuses.

You are dead right, hopefully no pun intended. A huge part of college is getting away from home, meeting new people, having fun and maybe a little study every now and then. Kids will be kids and all of us that have been there understand.

The biggest thing is that the students actions will dictate

If they will be able to start in person classes. And if they do start in person classes, if they will be able to keep it up. Based on what students are doing in other schools, I would not be surprised if everything remains online.

they are going to play either way.

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

Agreed if the respective team doesn’t mess up.

Individual games may be cancelled but the season will continue as long as the majority of teams keep things under control.

I gave the MLB example below and somehow someone took exception. NHL and NBA are pretty tight bubbles. Seems MLB is best example so far on how things could play out.

Not really. UNC and NC state already sent students home. They are still playing football

I have a student there

There will be stupid kids but I think they really want to stay and not go home. I bought 5 more bottles of hand soap today for my daughter and her roommates. They have been there a week. I think Clemson made a good decision in delaying move in and in person classes. Crossing fingers....and I believe the season will go on regardless. Living in downtown Columbia we are also closely watching the influx of students and behavior here too.

I don't blame them one bit really. Imagine having to put the best years of your life on ice for something no more dangerous than the normal flu for you. Some will step up, but I can't blame kids for still wanting to be kids.

You can have all the plans you want, all the measures in place, and lead that horse to the water, but he may not drink it.

I'd wager, football or not, classes will end up online eventually. Football may still work as those kids are a lot more responsible and have a lot more reason to stay safe and follow guidelines.

I’d bet more college kids die of alcohol/substance abuse this year than from covid.

Keep “at risk” faculty/ staff at home and let the world keep spinning. This is beyond ridiculous at this point.

The behavior of students (and colleges)..

Aug 23, 2020, 11:01 AM

I posted on here a few days ago that what UNC and other colleges are doing is almost criminal. What did they think was going to happen? Young folks are going to live it up, and some (a lot) will be infected.

To send them home after ONE week says to me that they wanted money first, then to heck with the rest. There has not been one science based plan that I have seen made in sending kids back home. I really hope Clemson has a published plan for this September.

My freshman daughter REALLY hopes they do....she’s ready to get out the house and stay out!
