If we happen to join the SEC, they have to add mens soccer.

Always thought it strange that they do not have mens soccer as a league sport.

I never realized that… interesting. Wonder why not? Soccer

Is a growing sport. Lacrosse too. Those seem like no brainers to have. They are a blast to watch too. I get golf and tennis, but they are just not as good to watch.
Strange ??

I didn't know that the SEC didn't have a soccer program..... That could potentially sway the decision just coming off the Natty win

Currently only Kentucky and the coots have men's soccer among SEC schools and they both play in Conference USA. If they add the 4 ACC teams rumored plus Texas (OU doesn't have it) that would give 7 schools with Men's soccer. Should be enough to add it.

The ACC has always been THE top conference for Men's Soccer

... I arrived at Clemson in 1978 to play on the Men's soccer team and the ACC was the top conference in soccer .. it still is considered the top conference today.
My first year we came in 3rd in the country, in 1979 we lost in the final, finishing #2. In 1984 and 1987 we won our first and second National Championships, respectively. Of course, Clemson again won the National Championship last year too.
Since 1984, ACC teams have won 16 of 38 National Championships.
It would be a shame to lose that historical affiliation.

Of those 16, the schools rumored to be headed to the SEC would take 11 with them (even more reason for the SEC to add men's soccer). Maryland already took 2 with them to the B1G. That only leaves 3 with the ACC and I doubt Notre Dame hangs around with their 1. So WF and Duke would have the only 2 remaining for the ACC during the time you referenced.

Depending on how it all shakes out the SEC may end up with enough teams to start.
I wouldn’t mind another sport in which we get to beat the chickens more.

We play South Carolina every year in soccer and have dominated the series over the last 5 years or so. ??

One of many reasons why I don’t think we are a great fit in the SEC.***

If UNC, UVA and Clemson end up in the SEC, that’s the three best historically in the current ACC. FSU doesn’t sponsor men’s soccer.
My guess is the SEC would sponsor for all of the reasons mentioned above. It’s the world’s number 1 sport and they’ve got to spend that money on something.
If they don’t, Clemson, the Holes and the Wahoos will need to find a home for their soccer program as an affiliate member elsewhere, like USuC does with Conference USA.
