I was under the impression both of your languages came from Latin so that would technically make Spanish a new language

If you truly have Puerto Rican friends then you would know that they make up their language as they go. Truth lol. And for the record Cubans like being called Cuban and Puerto Ricans like being called boricua if they are from Puerto Rico that is. But none of that matters cause Ee-n is still not Spanish.
