Who Can blame Players for wanting in on the dash for Cash?

Oct 10, 2014, 6:57 AM

With Coaches advertising all kinds of products on TV and radio. Million dollar + salaries are just not enough to pays the bills. In the meantime Players scrounge around for enough cash to go to Jack in the Box. Rules are rules but the temptation must be great for the have nots who don't have parents support

I think you can partially blame the adult who profited from it. He knew exactly what he was doing and worse, I think he did it with the intention of getting Gurley in trouble.

Oct 10, 2014, 7:25 AM

They know the rules from the start
just because you can don't mean you should

NCAA could put a stop to all of this talk about
players getting paid, not enough money
Start a draft pay the players let them pay for all they get now FREE
welcome them to the world we live in taxes and all that goes with
earning a living

Can't blame anybody for wanting stuff. I don't know if

Oct 10, 2014, 7:45 AM

"blame" is the right word, but these guys know it's against the rules, so there are no excuses whatsoever. Being "have nots" with poor parental support may be the worst excuse of all. Is it a bad rule? Maybe, maybe not; that is another discussion. They know better and should be held accountable.

Yep. Your parents have a little more than my parents therefore it's ok for me to break the rules.

Doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

We say we can blame them!

Temptation versus doing something wrong is two separate things.

You break the rules and get caught then pay the price.

Murderers, thieves, cheats, gang bangers all rationalize doing something wrong...

An average, low income student who struggles to stay in school and support himself doesn't have the option to sign sutographs to get some extra money. So don't blame that person if they still from you or break the rules... it is ok; no blame.

There are need based resources available....

via Pell Grants and stipends for those types of players so the players don't have to resort to accepting illegal inducements and benefits.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Dude would be a millionaire in less than a year

Oct 10, 2014, 8:52 AM

He just couldn't hold out...knowing the potential consequences. He let his team down. Also, coaches are professionals and ultimately get paid less than Gurleys type of potential contract. Don't buy into that "poor college kid" crud. He's taken care of.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't blame them for "wanting". I blame them for cheating.

Oct 10, 2014, 8:53 AM

Once again, no one is forcing Gurley to be a college athlete. He could walk out of practice today, never return, and be done with it.

He is incredibly talented and probably has a career ahead of him in the NFL. He can start training solely for that and have any job he wants.

If it's all about the players, then someone with money will start a developmental league for the NFL and rake in the money.

Oct 10, 2014, 10:47 AM

They all signed a piece of paper that said they wouldn't sell their signature. Now I personally believe anyone should have rights to sell their own likeness and signature as they see fit, but until that rule is changed then the ones who sign for money are breaking the rules and have to pay the price when they get caught.
