My in-laws, who live a comfortable, surprise-visit-free, 5.5 hours away near Nashville gave us a card that just said
"Our New Home [the set-up on the outside] Will be in Simpsonville in 2022" [the punchline on the inside]
FML
And to stuff that stocking even more, SheGUAR said they could stay with us as long as it took, if they sell their house fast.

We keep trying to tone gift giving down as well, so I spent less on wife this year as planned. Then she bought shit left and right AFTER Christmas because spending all the monies for Christmas wasn't enough.
