Nothing in search, so hope not Germain. Re: Marijuana bill

May 5, 2022, 3:39 PM

Seeing it passed senate recently was fairly optimistic the debate would at least be a good fight toward approval, but good ol SC house didn't even discuss it. So, it starts all over next year.

My pain management doctor even wishes they'd hurry up, as he believes strongly, as most common sense folk would, that the combination of opiates and moderate Marijuana use would surely drive down opioid use. I would agree.

Write your congressmen and women, and keep this moving forward if you agree.

Heard some info on the radio this AM about it

May 5, 2022, 3:45 PM

Seems the bill was crafted in the Senate, and not in the House. Problem is they also put a tax provision into the bill on the medical marijuana. As such, it became a revenue-generating bill due to the tax provision. There's a longstanding rule in SC that bills that are revenue-generating bills MUST originate in the House. As such, it doesn't matter if they keep doing it year after year after year, until the HOUSE proposes the bill, or they just do away with any taxes associated with it in the Senate, it gets nowhere.

I say drop the taxes, then send it over to the house and let them add a tax to it.

Yeah, I read it that way as well. Seems there are house members advocating it though, so I consider that hope.

Marinol shouldn't be available if medical marijuana isn't

May 5, 2022, 4:10 PM

They can either fight it or not, for ~$500-$600 you can get everything you need to grow it off of Amazon and buy whatever strain seeds you want/need from California. Either get on board or lose the potential tax revenue, there are plenty of people willing to grow it for medical patients around, and frankly they're OK with govt. not having their hands in the cookie jar.

I've heard Marinol is vastly marginal in terms of effect vs

May 5, 2022, 4:16 PM

The real thing. Mother nature does more on the levels in between growth that test tubes will never provide.

SC will give in, but likely be one of the last - sadly.

With existing proven models, it's beyond common sense to keep avoiding it. They've basically done just that with the current bill, minus anything recreational.

Just keeping fingers crossed ??

Davis worked his butt off to get the bill into passable

The guy really is one of the best legislators in the country. It's really frustrating, shellfishly, he doesn't go federal, though I'm assuming he knows picking a fight with Lindsey is not the way to go.

drunk at the putt putt.

It is, and a lot of times it makes the nausea symptoms

that it's supposed to be treating worse. Totally asinine.

Might as well just grow your own at that point.

That'd work fine, except for the pain management side...

May 5, 2022, 5:06 PM

They can't prescribe anything opioid or alike if you're also found with THC in your system. It'd be easy to flush, but then they'd also miss what you're prescribed, so that won't work. Kind of an ultimatum. Best I can tell anyway

It was not a very good bill anyway. Entirely too restrictive. SC will never get it right…

Personally I don’t care if it’s legal or not…only makes it a little bit of a pain to get since you can’t just go to a store to buy it.
