That was one of the most terrible officiating games I've ever seen tonight

Jan 19, 2016, 10:08 PM

6 free throws to 22. Touch fouls, made up fouls, yet they could only see one side?? Sorry but uva was hacking us the whole game with and without the ball. Sure we could have shot better but our game plan was to go inside and get them in foul trouble but we never got the calls tonight inside.

Makes me even more sick to have a coot fan beside me admitting we are getting hosed during the game. You know it's obvious then

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

saw several moving picks on off ball screens that set up

Jan 19, 2016, 10:14 PM

open shots for them also...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They didn't set one all night.

Jan 20, 2016, 5:59 AM

I've never seen a team get away with that much chit. I firmly blame our coaching for our guys not flopping when they moved around and leaned on their picks.

Didn't get to watch the first half...

But when you have two evenly matched teams and one team has 16 more free throw attempts than the other, that's the game. To the winner goes the free throws. And the refs determine that.

You mean like when we shot 28 more than Louisville?***

I didn't watch the entire UVA or Louisville game, but didn't Louisville continually foul us to try and get back in the game? Completely different scenario. That said, a long football season has left me with little patience for subjective basketball refs.

Go Tigers!

Sure they did. When they started doing that the FT discrepancy was 24-9. So really not all that different.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It wasn't poorly officiated.

Jan 19, 2016, 10:18 PM

We got away with a ton of grabbing off of screens. The FT discrepancy can be explained almost entirely by them forcing the ball inside and us taking nearly half of our shots from 3 point range.

Is 7 to 13 an unfair discrepancy?
How about 44-16? Seems like the refs must have handed that game to one team.

Re: It wasn't poorly officiated.

Jan 19, 2016, 11:33 PM

I don't know what game you watched. UVA didn't take the ball inside. They lived from mid-range. Clemson led in point from the paint 30-22. Clemson did shoot too many 3s, but the foul discrepancy was still ridiculous. UVA got touch fouls and the Tigers did not. The phantom call on Holmes with 30 secs to play was a back breaker.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

UVA played substantially more in the paint than we did

Jan 19, 2016, 11:56 PM

And even mid range play is more apt to draw contact. They had substantially more play inside the 3 point line where more fouls occur than we did.

As for the Holmes "phantom" foul, he clearly and blatantly grabbed Brogdon's right arm as he reached around. Clear as day from the baseline angle they showed. That is going to get called (and rightfully so) every single time.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Must be an official. They have trouble seeing also.***

Blaming the officiating for the loss is weak.

Jan 20, 2016, 6:19 AM

I watched the game and seen literally thousands of others and this game was NOT poorly officiated. You sound just like a Coot, we were simply out played. The 1 offensive rebound is much more significant.

We were in at the end but could not quite get there when down 2-3 points several times late. Good effort by the team to come back after they fell behind by 13.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That one late turnover was the real killer.

Jan 20, 2016, 8:26 AM

We had the ball, the momentum, and a chance to tie the game.

That unforced error was the real killer.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

This is the normal plight of a Clemson bball fan

Jan 20, 2016, 10:43 AM

It's always been that way. I've seen way worse though. But I've grown to expect and accept that reality over the years. That's why this mini run we just went on was so unbelievable and talked about. Because it's hard to win when there are two entities going against u.

Re: That was one of the most terrible officiating games I've ever seen tonight

I understand the frustration and I think it was warranted but the fact remains that we lost that game. Too many wild threes and inpatient shots. Abandoning Nnoko for long periods when he was having success. And down three with the ball under a minute to play and we turn it over. Bad officiating for sure but we have to blame ourselves for the loss.
