And how about the "other woman" at work who was letting him use her card, that's weird. Since his own wife was pregnant doesn't sound like the condoms were used at home.

You need to be a Private Investigator or a forensic auditor.

Nice catch on the condoms and family situation.

2013 - 2016 and caught by "routine audit"

Jan 24, 2018, 11:39 PM

Some very lax accounting. Every company I have ever worked for made you turn in receipts and an expense report every month. If you didn't they canceled your card.

I would bet good money he is not the only USuCk employee that has done this.

And $2,000 on toilet paper?!?! Dude must have some serious intestinal issues.

Re: 2013 - 2016 and caught by "routine audit"

Should've been caught if annual audits are done in the unit. Also the Finance unit should've had a reasonable independent monitoring system in place for card use.

I'm sorry , a plea deal to avoid prison ? This guy illegally bought more than $70,000.00 in goods/services and was given nothing more than a slap on his wrist ?
This country has gone soft on "white-collar" crime and that stinks .
Good thing he wasn't caught selling a plant to another guy who wanted to smoke the plant in his living room ...they'd both be locked down for three years .
Plea deals are for traffic violations .

Slap on the wrist because he was probably told to buy it from MusCoot for the football team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Gamecock Employee Embezzles 132K - David Hutson

Jan 25, 2018, 12:43 PM

Muschamp can't be blamed on this. This guy was stealing way before he got there. Also we need to hold the stone throwing before we shatter our own glass house. There has been plenty of theft at Clemson in many departments. A club sport guy at Clemson (Dec) just got busted for the same thing. The egregious part of this is the manner it was handled and the unjust justice system. They sound like it grieved them to even bring this situation to law enforcement. Smh

Noooo way. No way. This stinks to high heaven.

Jan 25, 2018, 8:30 AM

$132k stolen and all they can do is sing his praises? Reduced down to a plea of fraudulent handling of less than $2,000? Allowed to resign? A father-in-law quickly coming up with the money to make it go away? Lawyers lining up to assist after his lawyer passes away? $40k of purchase went on another employees credit card and she didn’t blink an eye?

Bulllllllll. This is ridiculous. Let’s see where this guy ends up. My guess is he’ll land on his feet, maybe working for a USC booster’s company.

Maybe the story is as written but I am very skeptical.

Re: Noooo way. No way. This stinks to high heaven.

Jan 25, 2018, 1:37 PM

Exactly, that is the egregious part to all of this. The manner in which it was handled, he was given the cashmere glove treatment. First they only took action because of the amount. No matter if it was $2 stolen he should have been prosecuted. Then how do we get from $132k actual stolen money to $2000 convicted of stealing, that's a plea bargain for the Stars as in Hollywood Stars. His wife also had to know something was up if all this expensive stuff is coming to your house yet it's never show up on your bank statement! Wait a min! Then they are all talking about him like he is just the best person ever to grace their place of employment. He said he did it because he had a child coming, dude this was over a course of years!! If this was a 12 yo stealing a loaf of bread for it's siblings because the mother is a bonafide crackhead, the kid would be in Juvi for 2 years. Smh it's said that crime doesn't pay, but it seems as if white-collar crime does. Sad part about it is because of how his judgement went this guy could work in another professional setting.

Work for Clemson

Jan 25, 2018, 10:03 AM

I have a state credit card. The security is strict. Pass code on each transactions at the seller and E-mail documentation from BOA and 3 Clemson people to document purchases PLUS receipts REQUIRED.

I'm not saying this won't happen at Clemson, but someone will need to be very creative.

Protecting Someone

Jan 25, 2018, 10:24 AM

This probably happened because the people who he reported to did not do their job and signed off on the transactions without even looking. That most likely is the reason that the incident was kept quiet and usuck and usuck law allowed him to cut a deal.

The only reason we know it the local fish wrap filed a FOIR and printed the story.

Is there a difference between a state issued credit card and one issued by the university which the article implied was the case? Wouldn't be surprised if statements are mailed directly to employees instead of the Finance Dept. Evidently no reasonable monitoring process was in place.

Put up your stones before we shatter our own glass house. Not to say how this whole thing was handled wasn't egregious. I find it to be sickening and how he was given a high five instead of a measly slap on the wrist. I just don't think we have basis to pretend that stealing only happens in Columbia.
