Well said. She certainly doesn't deserve this. The perv though could be deserving of a little man love behind bars.

I've seen it and honestly, it wasn't worth $75M. Imagine seeing one of the hottest woman on tv naked behind 4 panes of frosted glass during an earthquake. That's a high-level summary of the footage.

I read the article afterwards. Not sure if that is a 75 million negligence but it is something....still having a hard time understanding how this has had a permanent devastation to her life, though. I can't recall her losing a job, going into hiding, jumping in a Bronco and leading a slow speed chase...

Exactly. I travel and stay in hotels quite a bit. Just the thought of someone giving my room number out so carelessly is scary. Bottom line is they should never give someone's room number out....they are not even supposed to say it out loud when you get your room keys.
Their actions caused hurt and embarrassment. It is an awful violation.....think of your wife....daughter.....sister...mother. Think of how it would make you feel if someone did the same to them.
If I am to be honest, she is not my favorite TV personality. ....but this thing that was done to her is inexcusable.

I suppose the hotel did screw up giving that guy her room number and all. I kinda am not buying the 75 mill and "she is a shell of herself". She has been working steady and all over the place since that happened.

I was amazed actually at how much time she spent looking at herself naked in the mirror. Lol. Women.
And yeh, "shell of herself" is just bs lawyer speak for "show me the money". Erin Andrews is one of the most recognizable faces / names in the NFL / sports analyst world. Was the hotel liable? Absolutely. But how anyone puts a dollar figure on what that is worth is hard to say.
It's estimated that she's paid an annual salary of $400-500,000 for her work as a sports personality with probably another $150,000 in endorsements / ads / sponsorships, etc. And that doesn't include whatever she makes as a host on Dancing with the Stars.

at all. I can't speak for what goes on with her personally behind the scenes, but when I think of a "shell of her/hisself" I guess I imagine people wouldn't have continued the career trajectory she has had. Still and obviously, though, this was a serious invasion of privacy.

No one could tell Robin Williams was on the brink. A lot can be hidden behind a smile. A photo is hardly a measure of mental stability or depression.

You are right. You can hide a whole lot behind a smile. I know that it would be difficult to admit that you were rocked by something like this. You almost don't want to give the perpetrator the satisfaction.

Honestly... I know this has been hard for her but I'm astonished that the judge just granted her $55 million dollars.
I'd gladly be filmed nude putting lotion on in my hotel room and view 17 million times on the internet doing so if the end result was (a) keeping my job, (b) becoming even more popular, (c) being offered more opportunities, and (d) making $55M.
Sounds heartless but I'm dead serious. That's quite the settlement.

Hence the reason she is blaming the hotel and not the creep that did this. If this were about justice the creep would be arrested, and forced to labor to pay back his crimes. Now I will admit that I am not sure that an employee of the hotel didn't do wrong but the shareholders will suffer the worse for this. Two wrongs won't make this right.

Lol, there's people out there that get paid to have coitus in front of millions but that doesn't mean I'd do it. Different strokes for different folks...no pun intended.
To do it intentionally and know that all you would have to do is pose naked VS being filmed naked in the privacy of your home where you may do or say something you wouldn't want recorded would be pretty shocking and maybe pretty traumatic.

The number is still absurd. If she was an average citizen and not a TV celebrity, she'd be lucky if she was awarded $5 million max. If she was masturbating, having sex with someone or doing something more scandalous I could understand the "trauma" she's claiming she's had to endure because of this but all it was was a blurry recording through a peephole of her walking around a room and putting lotion on. I'm not saying it was harmless but $55M? Even with her $430,000 NFL salary, that equates to 127 years of work! In December 2015, there was a case of a woman suing for $10M for basically the same thing when an AirBnB listing she stayed at recorded her naked walking around the residence during her 3-day stay (her partner found one of the cameras on their last day there). But $75M asking? Wow.

No doubt it is a lot of money. My thinking is maybe the higher profile the case allowed a higher sum to 'really' send a message to hotel chains. For instance, I didn't hear anything about that other case...

Maybe they came to the amount of $75 million by saying each view was worth just over $4.00 multiplied by 17,000,000. I know that's what they did with people illegally downloading music via Limewire.
How many views did the other video get? Lol, have fun with that homework...

The value of a person's privacy shouldn't be based on what they do for a living or how attractive they are was more the point I was getting at. The damage is the same, as should be the repercussions. An Indian national was caught in London a few years back after placing hidden cameras in public toilets... He recorded over 3,500 women & children in an environment most people assume to deem as "private". He was jailed for 4 years and sentenced to 10 years probation, not a dollar paid. Tell me how that makes sense.

I guess Hulk Hogan is feeling much better about his $100M lawsuit against Gawker Media now for distributing his sex tape.
Strange to me that only the hotel was found liable in the Erin Andrews case but it remains on multiple #### sites as of this evening and none of them are being sued. And how the actual peeping tom hasn't faced criminal charges is baffling.

I think the difference here is that the general public would more than likely not be interested in seeing an average Jane. The fact that she is a celebrity makes people view the video more. I''m not saying that one is worse than the other, but I do think more people would watch a nude video of Erin. I am glad the courts made a statement to the hotel with the settlement, but I do think that something should have happened to the disgusting pervert who did this.

Totally agree. I just think the number is crazy. I thought it was crazy that Kim Kardashian made $5M from Vivid for her sex tape with Ray-J... And that was high-def and so sexual that she'll forever be associated with it. But a blurry peep-hole version of walking around and putting lotion on for $55M seems like quite a deal, all things considered. Her smile walking out of the courthouse was more about the settlement than justice. And yes, the peeping tom should absolutely be criminally charged, else what's the lesson here? Don't tell people what room our guests are in? The absurdity of it all.
