bought a little Al Mar ultralight flipper knife

May 13, 2021, 2:57 PM

to carry around in the yard this summer cause I always seem to need one when out and about.
Only weighs a little more than an ounce - VERY light. Nice to carry around in a pair of shorts, don't even know it's there. As light as one of those tiny Swiss Army knives, but with a much more substantial blade.

Al Mar Knives got a good reputation, knives have been around for a long time. (there are dozens of Al Mar knives listed on ebay $1000+). I knew Al Mar was a famous military guy who died awhile back, he was a Green Beret or something who retired and started designing knives.

When I got it, was packed in a very impressive, sturdy little box. But what surprised me, and why I am posting this, was the address on the box:

AL MAR Knives
100 Roe Road,
Travelers Rest, SC, 29690,
United States
(877) 960-2491

Who knew this company was now based in Travelers Rest?

This is my little pocket rocket I carry almost all the time....

In fact, somebody on here recommended it, maybe 3 or 4 years ago. Maybe it was discontinued and on sale, I forget. Anyway, it's a cool little knife. Only about 4" long, sharp as a razor, and has a light action to spring the blade open. You can pull it out of your pocket and immediately be ready to rock-n-roll.

Everybody's a badazz until they feel something warm on top of their tennis shoes, and it's their large intestines. All I know about it is it says Kershaw Speedsafe on the blade.

smoking cigarettes and writing something nasty on the wall

that speedsafe open mechanism is pretty sweet

i got a couple non-speedsafe kershaws as my EDC, you know, for when I need to flatten an amazon box to bring to the recycling center...

or when i have to flatten a Target box to bring to recycling center.

sometimes, I even have to flatten a Thrift Market box to bring to the recycling center.

really is a handy tool

Been carrying my orange 2021 Swiss Army knife for a month now - time for something new.

not my intention...just wanted to note that this company

is HQ'd in Greenville County, which I would have never guessed.

It's a good knife but not as hardy as my Kershaws. Very light, which means a very thin blade. It's not designed for hard use, more like for cutting hay bale twine, or a vine, or opening a bag of feed.
