I heard a New Yorker - with a straight face - and I am not making this up - tell a group of visitors that southerners are less sophistication as evidenced by lower appreciation for irony and satire. Stick-up-the-buttocks attitude of the NYT aside, I guess he's right, because I thought the article was satirically humorous.
