com·mit·ment /k??mitm?nt/
noun
1. the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. "the company's commitment to quality"
2. an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action. "business commitments"
The definition hasn’t changed. The culture has. A man’s word in this day in age doesn’t hold the same worth as 50 years ago.
Dabo knows this and tries to teach young men that a man’s word is his bond and that’s all a man’s got. Sadly that will probably end up forcing him out of coaching. There will come a time when everyone will turn on him because of his coaching methods. He is and hopefully will always be more concerned with mentoring and turning boys into great men, rather than winning championships.
I see nothing wrong with telling a young man that if he commits to my program, he’s committed, plain and simple. If you’re not ready to go all in. Don’t.

Totally agree. This is not a college football issue. This is a national if not world-wide issue. Personal responsibility is going the way of the dinosaurs.

The kid isn't even old enough to by cigarettes and you are acting like his word is signed in blood. Why not support the kid for him making the tough decision to do what he thinks is best for his future?
Relax, Francis.

It’s about giving your word to someone and keeping it. And also having integrity. You may not think it’s important, but it used to mean something to people.

BV gave his word and SIGNED a CONTRACT that was supposed to last until 2026.
Does he lack integrity as well?

BV is a grown man. And I can guarantee he’s a way better man than you. Besides, his contract was a business contract with exit strategies built in that both parties agreed upon. You even attempting to compare the two tells me i’m wasting my time trying to respond to you with logic.
I forgive you for being part of the problem. But hey TU for trying.

and one that i answered in my response. BV’s contract was structured with exit strategies that both parties agreed on. The way he left under contract was not breaking it, it was fulfilling it.

Every contract or agreement has an exit strategy. Take out a car loan and both sides agree what will happen once the loan is satisfied or if it is not. How does an "exit strategy" make it less of a commitment?

Pay off the loan according to the mutually agreed terms and you have successfully satisfied your commitment.
End your contract within the mutually agreed terms and you have successfully fulfilled your commitment.

Well, I am smart enough to understand that a coach signing a contract is at least as much of a commitment as a kid putting on a cap in front of a few cameras - no matter how you try to dress it up.

Still doesn’t sound right the second time. As far as dressing it up - you can put lipstick on a dog, but it’s still a dog. Or was that a pig??

You’re either 9 years old or a coot. Maybe both.

exactly. and teaching that value to young men in their most impressionable age equips them to become honest, moral, and valuable citizens that will have positive impact on society.

The lack of commitment was not on me (Divorce).
When it comes to coaches or todays youth quell the expectations because the unmet expectations will leave you mad and disappointed.

I was surprised he left before his son graduated. My dad was our football coach. He did not resign from coaching until my brother finished his senior year. I think there is a lack of commitment in this world. Pray we have parents of players that are ensuring their sons make a commitment they are willing to live up to at Clemson.
