Is it P&R? I dunno...will probably turn into that.
https://www.wltx.com/article/news/local/south-carolina-open-carry-bill-heads-to-gov-mcmasters-desk/101-12ed5f1e-0a31-4aa2-b523-cd2954af781b
I don't see how this is a good thing by most any measure, but feel free to change my mind. Nearly all LEO (anecdotally and at least one study I've seen) don't feel that people who have taken 8 hours of training are equipped with the skill and discipline required to draw and use a firearm in an active shooter/panic situation, and the idea of open carrying machismo will lead to a lot more people walking around with firearms than under the CCW system.
And let's also not discount what happens when an active shooter situation happens, cops show up, and a guy has a gun. We get to test how LEO treats white vs. black people with guns. SPOILER: don't be black.

turns it into a P&R discussion in the OP
I can see the pros and cons. For me, I don't want people knowing I'm carrying. That's why I CC.
But I also CC a 1911 .45 Taurus. So having that thing on might as well be open carry

yourself with a gun. Not a statement around open carry vs. conceal carry.
I have more guns in my gun safe than I could possibly need. Want to buy a couple?

Nah, I am excited about getting to openly bring weapons into the church sanctuary now instead of hiding them from all those libtards.

In GA we get a weapon's license. It allows us to carry open or concealed. No training needed. I don't see it as a problem.

"South Carolina is one of only five states without so-called open carry."
The others: California, Florida, Illinois and New York.
Figure that.

Most LEO don't have those skills you reference, either.

I definitely didn't realize that open carry was that

prevalent. I spent 9 years in AZ where open carry was allowed with no permit whatsoever and managed to not get shot, but it's still a bit offputting to see dudes with neck tats walking around Target with 9mm's loose in the back pocket of jeans well below dey asses (this was AZ, so generally not black guys).
Anyway, no, I don't think the world is going to come crashing down in SC, but I seriously doubt the benefits outweighs the costs, because I don't really see what the benefits are and the costs, while somewhat sparse, will likely be deadly for a small number of people.

this bill would allow them to without a CCW though. Biggest thing from my perspective is it eliminates the ability of let's call them...gung ho leo's from jamming someone up because they printed, or accidentally exposed their firearm. Not that there's a ton of those instances out there, but I'm also in favor of constitutional carry with no permit so there's that.
I don't think there's any evidence that open carry increases the publics risk of getting shot, most people aren't going to open carry anyway. 99.9% of the people that might shoot you probably don't GAF about permitting or training.

Hows come one of the few places you can’t carry is in government buildings?
Seems to me the most important place to have a bunch of good guys with guns would be where it’s most likely that bad guys with guns are going to make mischief

At least, this way you can more easily identify those who live in fear.

I wonder how many people, who currently conceal carry and foolishly carry their weapons into banks and other facilities where it’s illegal, will switch to open carry. And then get so comfortable carrying that they walk into a bank with a gun on their hip. Whoops!
