I just don't get the accuracy questions.

Watson is the most accurate passer I have seen in quite some time. Not only can he make every throw on the field and put the ball where only his guys can catch it, he can throw the swing passes and screens where his guys can catch, tuck and turn upfield as quickly as possible.

I think part of it is that people think that Mike bailed him out with acrobatic catches, but in reality those type of throws were into coverage and Deshaun put the ball where he knew only Mike could get it, and he trusts that Mike will be able to make the play.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Yep

It's pretty simple. You throw high, on purpose, to Mike when he's covered.

And likewise, you throw low, on purpose, to Renfrow or other crossing receivers in coverage.

Accuracy should be determined by what he is aiming to do, and for the most part Watson puts the ball where he intends.

I think the accuracy can be seen in the pass to Renfrow at the post in the Fiesta bowl against OhioSt. The safety made a great play, the safety is likely a first round pick. But the accuracy can be seen in the fact that Refrow actually would have caught the ball in full stride if the safety had not been a half step closer. I do not think any other safety in the FBS and possibly few in the NFL would have made the play the OhioSt play made, TJ Green last year was fast enough to make the play but to make the play you have to be able to know where the ball is going before it leaves Watson's hand.

He struggled a good bit with deep ball accuracy this season

He was nearly perfect a year ago, so I'm not sure what the problem was, but he routinely missed deep balls to Cain and Williams.

Cleveland had 50 million over cap they could spend this year! SanFran has 38 million over cap!
Either one could have much better personnel next year than this year.
I want what is best for DW4, but I have no idea where the best spot is.

fascinating to see Count Chocula backpedal

Jan 20, 2017, 10:30 AM

First he was a second-or-third rounder, and Kiper was adamant about that. Accuracy issues. Questionable decision making. A spread college system that has produced more busts that legit NFL prospects. You know, like Vince Young. (I checked the stats, just out of curiosity's sake. Vince Young threw for just 3036 yards, 26 TD's, and 10 INT's, to go with his 1050 yards and 12 TD's on the ground. And Young always looked distinctly uncomfortable in the pocket. Contrast that with Deshaun Watson...who threw for 4,593 yards and 41 TD's, against just 639 yards and 9 TD's rushing...and who looks as relaxed and natural in the pocket since any guy called Elway or at least Farve. The only real similarities between Young and Watson, really, is that they both won natties in dramatic last-second fashion...and they're both black, which I guess in Kiper's mind makes them the same player. Their play styles were distinctly dissimilar.)

Whatever, I'm digressing. Then Deshaun won the National Title...and a defiant Kiper still had him as a second-rounder. He remained adamant about his earlier position but conceded Watson "might" sneak into the late first round off "intangibles".

Now he's got Deshaun at 10 in his first mock draft, and is openly talking about how he "thought" about putting him up to the 2 or 3 spot...but is adamant he "just couldn't do it."

Now I'm hearing distinct rumblings San Franscisco may grab Watson with the first pick.

That should tell you everything you need to know about Mel Kiper Junior's draft acumen.

Kiper is a total hack. Saying Watson will go in the 2nd or 3rd round most of the season. Then he said "might sneak into the late 1st", now he's saying pick #10, but that he could foresee that changing by April.

In other words, he has no f****** clue what is going to happen.

I miss I got paid millions to be as wrong as he is all the time.

If kiper was good at what he does, he would be scouting for a pro team. Not working for a failing tv network.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That and didn't Vince Young rock something close to a 7

I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message.

He never changed his opinion on Watson

Jan 20, 2017, 11:23 AM

Earlier, he was talking about how he has a 2nd round grade on him. Now he's saying he'll go in the top 10 in his mock. Draft grades and mock drafts are not the same thing.
