Nuk I Love and Repect Your Talent But I Would Tell You

Nov 8, 2017, 5:32 PM

You might want to reconsider your incredibly self-centered and immature world view. As a one who also went to Clemson on a scholarship I feel more than justified in calling you out.

I would ask you to consider that on any given day there are near to 500+ Clemson students on some sort of military scholarship (either ROTC or GI Bill). Unlike you, many of these people don't have the luxury of quitting on their commitment and teammates and chasing dollars because they feel like they are not treated with prima dona-like deference. Unlike your friends and family who might have to go hungry or not have all the luxuries of modern life, the families and friends of these student-servicepeople live with or have lived with the gut-wrenching fear of loss of life limb and sanity of their young men and women.

Nuk, in retrospect I would wager the benefits you gained from Clemson at least equaled the benefits you now enjoy as a multi-millionaire. Please find it in yourself to find a more mature perspective on this matter. In the case you don't please feel free to make your little jabs at Clemson by claiming Daniel high because if this behavior continues you don't have the right to claim yourself a Clemson Man with all those who have given far more than you ever have.

Re: Nuk I Love and Repect Your Talent But I Would Tell You

Nov 9, 2017, 3:26 PM

Actually it was not the university that gave him the scholarship. It was IPTAY. All those years of making sacrifices (albeit smaller than many) to set aside money to donate. All those years of losing records and probation and being laughed at by so many. All those years of hoping we could some day compete. Literally thousands of IPTAY contributors chipped in a lot over the years to get us to the status we are today. Without that support, we would be way back in the pecking order. Back in the day, many contributed so we could hold on and someday get to the point we are today. To be given the opportunity of a lifetime for a no-charge education while getting lavish praise from students, kids and even old men carries a high price tag. That price tag is appreciation and someday giving back to whence the gift came. Nuk has done great things for kids in the local community, he had a tough upbringing (from all I have heard) and likely has a lot of childhood issues he is still dealing with, as many of us, if not all, do. If the Clemson experience really took with him, we will see a day sometime in the future when we will see a different expression of thanks and acceptance. We Clemson folks don't turn our backs on our fellow Clemson folks, but this whole thing with his statements has been pretty disappointing. Let's hope and pray that at some point his head coach will be able to counsel him once yet again and we will see and hear different things. In the meantime he is certainly entitled in this country to his opinion and to his freedom of expression, even if we think it is misguided or wrong or somehow twisted by what he has experienced or by the forum that he was making those statements in. 4th and 16. Go make a play. But remember, it takes teammates and a lot of support to make that play.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It could be argued that he is not a Clemson man.

Nov 8, 2017, 7:15 PM

He did not earn a degree, and he has shown a lack of respect for our fine institution.

I appreciate his hard work and outstanding play as a Clemson student-athlete, but it does not afford him the right to disrespect Clemson now.

Well spoken. College is a luxury. It's an opportunity tool used to propel your future to higher, broader, grander prospects. It has costs, like everything in life. One day, Nuk will see that those costs secured him a future that would have otherwise been completely unattainable, and he'll say it was worth the costs. Until then, we'll all roll our eyes as the child has his tantrum...

Nuk obviously thinks that he would have made the NFL

Nov 9, 2017, 7:23 AM

regardless of where he attended college. He wouldn't have to look any further than Clemson for proof that is not so. Anyone remember Mike Bellamy? All the talent in the world, but was not willing, (or not able) to put forth the required effort to remain a part of the team. After falling off the college map, he was signed and then cut by a Canadian Football League team, never to be heard from again on a football field.

So, Nuk, whether or not you want to acknowledge that Clemson helped you as much as you helped them, you are welcome. Someday, with increased wisdom and clarity that usually comes with age, you will hopefully realize this. Maybe even return to the Ponzi scheme and get a degree. Wouldn't that be something?

Sounds like he's fallen prey to the Victim Mentality

Nov 9, 2017, 8:13 AM

that is so pervasive everywhere these days. "Help! Help! I'm being repressed!" Everybody, especially those that do well, seem to feel like they have to have something where they can claim they're a victim. This is one reason the anthem protests aren't going over like intended - you have guys making a minimum of high six figures and well into 7 or even 8 figures for others, trying to claim they're victims. These are among the most privileged of anyone. Granted, they worked hard to get where they are, and they work hard now, but you can't say that your university didn't help you when you're making millions in the NFL. It's hard to imagine how and why these guys feel like they have to be a victim somehow, but it's really stupid. Sad to hear this coming from a former Clemson player.

MBTiger ......I wish I could give you 100 TUs. I also wish there was some way that Nuk could read it and really give some thought to what he said. He just shows a level of immaturity that is way below his athletic maturity. I have no idea why he wants to alienate thousands of people (just from Clemson alone) when it is totally unnecessary. It's almost like an entertainer who gets political and ticks off at least half of their fan base ..... Makes no sense.

Nov 9, 2017, 11:43 AM

and I appreciate all he did for Clemson football. I have also followed him closely in the NFL and pulled for him there. Now, he takes a shot at Clemson, and that's not cool. It certainly doesn't offend me personally, but to the extent I'm part of the Clemson family, it affects my impression and opinion of NUK. Right now, he comes across as an immature, self-centered ingrate, and it's hard to pull for somebody like that. Now, if he backtracks, apologizes, or further explains his comments, I'm all for it and I'd love to hear it. Otherwise, it's not the same with NUK anymore.

Jesus you snowflakes need to grow up and understand that we are all humans who go through unique experiences that shape our world views. Just because somebody didn't have the same experience as you doesn't make their experiences any less human. I've never seen such disdain for free speech. His stance and behavior needs to be exposed to all of Tiger Nation - especially those who naively believe no man who dons the Orange and White for Clemson on the football field can do no wrong. There are those, albeit very few, who do not deserve our continued support. I can’t imagine how his Tiger teammates and coaches - who have helped him get to this point in his professional career - feel. He should be grateful for the hand God has dealt him and grateful for everyone who has gotten him to this point in his life.

Re: Thanks for your post and very well said. +1 to every comment

I believe that Nuk is a very proud, sensitive, self-centered guy whose feelings have been hurt recently by the national lovefest for Deshaun Watson, and his play for the Texans. This undoubtedly brought back memories of Sammy Watkins being the "great natural athlete" while Nuk was perceived as the "sure-handed route runner". Clemson just seems to be the common denominator in his mind right now. I sincerely hope that he thinks twice about the things he said in that interview about his negative college experiences, and begins to count his blessings, both while at Clemson and in his chosen profession. Maybe the best goodwill gesture for Tiger fans, as well as for his future, would be to return to complete his degree and graduate.
