Coaches work so hard and long. I say BS give me a break!

Nov 30, 2012, 1:35 PM

I am so tired of hearing how hard the coaches work. They get lottery type salaries and fly around in private jets, stay in Hyatts, eat steak and lobster on the university credit card, always drive new cars and return
to their offices built for a king (have you seen Dabo's office). If they have a dinner in Florence they fly there and fly back to their family. I bet they spend alot more time with their family than does the average
traveling salesman, much less a truck driver etc. I noticed Micky Plyer is drinking the "coaches work so hard and hurt so bad koolaid". I guess like everything else in the media, there is a reason they keep throwing that out there. I guess to keep the average joes to keep coming to the games and watching them on TV so they can continue to make their "king ransom" saleries. They depend on people like Mickey to keep telling us how hard they work and how bad they hurt so we don't lose heart when we hear Morris makes $1.3 million a year for that games plan against SC. Hell my daughter could have called a better game!

You have clearly never been a coach

Nov 30, 2012, 1:40 PM

You don't understand what goes into the process during the week. Most coaches get in their office as the sun is coming up and leave their office much after it has gone down. Jeff Scott has commented before that most of his days run from 6AM-10PM at the office. Doesn't leave much time to spend at home like you say. Also, how many jobs can you fail 3 or 4 times a year and tons of people want to fire you. That is some reason right there why the losses are harder on them than the fans, because winning is how they take care of their family. Again, if you have never been a coach in at least high school then I wouldn't expect you to understand. Continue to think poor you because that lazy coach lost you a game that you work so hard to win....

I think they work hard but alot of people work hard. I'm tired of hearing how freaking hard they work. Give a rest. My experience is anybody that has to talk about how hard they are working is not really working that hard.

Do you work 16 hour days?

Nov 30, 2012, 1:50 PM [ in reply to Re: You have clearly never been a coach ]

That is what many college coaches work. Are you fired for making a few mistakes only a few times a year? Many college coaches are every year. Is the well-being of roughly 100 college students in your hands on a day-to-day basis? I could do this all day, but I think you should get it by now. Yea they get paid a lot, and it's for their lack of job security and the amount of time that they have to put in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL, they get paid that much because we, as a society,

a good bit tougher.

fan

As a person who coaches I feel as though you have no idea what these guys go through. You have never worked a 60 hour work week to have everything you do determined in a 3 hour span. You have never tried to convince a high school kid to do something that will change their life. You probably have never impacted 80 kids not only what they do on the field, but also in their life. You might work a 40 hour work week, good for you but you are not a college coach. You have no idea what it means to work from 5 in the morning to 10 or 11 at night and being judged on everything you do. Also you are under a microscope if you want to have a drink with your friends pictures are taken and stories are written. Getting pulled over for speeding by a cop, having a young COLLEGE person experiment with drugs YOU are responsible

You have to fly all over the country for 12 months. Before you dare criticize these men who work very hard for you to enjoy their product give me a break

Or maybe you would like to share your resume and how hard you work, rather than just criticize on a message board. Get a life

Maybe so many whine about the terrible job coaches do because they can't begin to understand what goes into it.

amen brother....you tell 'em......I have a family member on a coaching staff and I know for a FACT , the hours are from 5:30 am to 11:00 pm or later and I know the sacrifices he makes where his family is concerned.....so, to all those "wannabee" coaches out there, if you think you can do a better job, then why aren't you out there coaching instead of whinning about the ones we DO have....CAUSE YOU KNOW THAT YOU COULDN'T DO IT...I've heard this same crap for over 30 years and IT GETS O.L.D.

You are clearly a butthead. I coached eight years high school and three years European football...it is non stop and I did not even have to recruit. You have no idea, what a stupid comment

Obviously you weren't a very good football coach so you wasted alot of time, and obviously you have never driven a truck!

must be a truck driver...I don't feel sorry for you that you obviously hate your job/life and have never had the brain/knowledge to coach football.

It's said that you resort to making fun of people that do something you cant.

Son...

Nov 30, 2012, 3:36 PM

Son, we live in a world that has recruits, and those players have to be recruited by men with skills. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Tman84? Coaches have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Steak and Lobster, and you curse the new cars. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That spending money, while tragic, probably creates wins. And our coaches existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, creates a winning program. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at viewing parties, you want them on that recruiting trail, you need them on that recruiting trail. Coaches use words like long hours, hard work, recruiting trail. They use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. Coaches have neither the time nor the inclination to explain themselves to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very success that they provide, and then questions the manner in which they provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a TV remote and enjoy the success this brings to your program. Either way, they don't give a #### what you think you are entitled to.
