Interesting statistics

May 5, 2014, 1:58 PM

National titles in football: FSU - 3 (only 2 until last year); Clemson - 1

ACC championships: FSU - 14; Clemson - 14

Yes, I know they have been in the ACC for a significantly shorter period of time than we have, but how the hell do we continue to get labeled as chronic underachievers with a team such as FSU not only in our same league but same division? Clemson always has had 1-2 "elite" players on our team (Jacoby Ford, CJ Spiller, Bowers, Watkins, Hopkins, Ellington, etc.) and for some reason the national pundits equate this to mean the team should have similar talent/success. This could not be further from the truth. While having great skill players Clemson has generally failed to recruit well in the trenches which is the meat and potatoes of a successful football team. During the Tommy Bowden and Dabo Swinney eras, Clemson has generally averaged a 10th-14th ranked recruiting class while Florida State averages in the top 3 year in and year out. Since 2002, Clemson has gone 6-6 versus the Seminoles despite significantly less talent according to experts.

My question to you is this: Who has been the greatest underachiever over the past decade or two, FSU or Clemson?

It's Tommy Bowden and Heather Dinich's fault - we keep "Pulling a CLEMSON".

Your asking "but how the #### do we continue to get labeled as chronic underachievers" insinuates you believe we do not underachieve or else you wouldn't ask it.

Cole @ Beach Cole w/ Clemson Hat

Thank you

I was saying that it is interesting how Clemson is labeled the underachiever when juxtaposed with Florida state, a team in our own division who seemingly has underachieved even more.

I think FSU has been considered an underachiever up until the past few years. At least from the same talking heads you say have claimed that Clemson has underachieved.

I thought that's why they changed up the regime? There's a good decade there where I thought they were synonymous with "underachieve"

They certainly underachieve when recruiting Georgia 'cruits.

Clemson has somewhat overachieved? Would you say?

I hope teh Morris suitors continue to underachieve with their job offers.

most of our titles came with a much smaller sized ACC which theoretically makes it easier to win. FSU owned the ACC when they came in for several years. We were in fact one of the last ACC teams to beat them when they entered. I think NC St beat them twice before Clemson did. 90's and early 2000's we werent exactly lighting it up and sadly much of that was self inflicted (firing DF, hiring KH and TW)
