Games this weekend ... who to pull for

May 13, 2016, 7:30 AM

As far as the ACC race, and our hopes to avoid a play-in game, Clemson has no say in things this weekend. However, a few other folks can make our lives easier.

The Tigers currently sit precariously on the No. 6 spot, the last bye position for the tournament, at 13-14. The rest of the league shapes up like so (ignoring the division alignment, since it's top six overall)

1. Miami 16-6
2. Louisville 16-8
3. Fla State 14-6
4. NC State 13-9
5. Virginia 14-10
6. Clemson 13-14
7. Ga Tech 11-12
8. Wake 11-13
9. N. Dame 10-12
10. Boston 11-14
Pitt (10-13) and UNC and Duke (10-14)

As you see, with only one series left, there's no way Clemson can challenge the leaders. However as we battle Ga. Southern in Statesboro this weekend, we can get some help elsewhere.

Notably in Charlottesville, where Tech and the Cavs square off, and Blacksburg where the Hokies host Wake. There's also a showdown in Chapel Hill, where Notre Dame faces the Heels.

If the home teams can take these series 2-1, and it doesn't rain, here's how things look come Monday:

5. Virginia 16-11
6. Clemson 13-14
7. Ga Tech 12-14
8. Wake 12-15
9. N. Dame 11-14
10. UNC 12-15
Boston 11-14
Pitt (10-13) and UNC and Duke (10-14)

Sure, we're still 6th and it's impossible to climb higher with only one series remaining. BUT getting to fifth doesn't matter in ACC baseball. The important thing is not to fall below 6th.

Wake, actually is the wild card. Playing at VTech, a Wake road sweep is possible. We really need the Hokies to take at least 1 game. That leaves us tied with Wak for 6th, and we hold the series tiebreaker on the Deacs.

If the weekend series go to the home teams, and we take the series from N.Dame next weekend, there would be no way to fall below 6th. If the Cavs somehow got a sweep this weekend, and VTech wins at least 1, then any win by the Tigers would lock up 6th place no matter what GT does with Boston the next weekend. And, given that Wake closes out at Louisville and UNC is at the Wuffies, sweeps by either team is less than likely.

So ... pull like #### for the Cavs, Hokies and (ugh!) Heels this weekend.

And, as always, go Tigers!

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

I'll say I'm interested in the UNCheat series with ND , but I'll stop at that .
