Emotional Saturday

Sep 6, 2022, 5:14 PM

Clemson University and Clemson football have been part of our family's life for over a 100 years. My grandfather (Class of 1921) started it all and it continues to this day, as I moved my daughter in a few weeks ago to complete the 4th Generation. Like many of you so much of my family's most memorable times have centered around Clemson football. Whether it was attending in person, listening to Jim Phillips on the radio in a dove field (while my dad used me as his retriever) just countless memories of bowl games, (freezing cold at Tigerama)and the 100s of games we have attended with family. Clemson football has been our common bond.

I started taking my kids at about age 3 and we have shared some great memories and trips. Like every family we have had our trying times but Clemson football was something that has brought us great joy and togetherness.

Well this Saturday my son (who like all other kids just couldn't wait to get on the field after the game to see his heroes) will be playing on that field. While he may be playing for Furman it will still be a huge invent for our family. I am so glad my 84 dad is still here to see this. (He is a Clemson man through and through (class 1961, 60 year IPTAY member) To see his grandson run out on that field will I know be emotional for him and many of us.

As I get older I realize more and more you need to enjoy life's special moments. I plan on being in that stadium as soon as it opens and come rain or shine, enjoying every minute of it and thankful he has this opportunity.

That is great. Enjoy the ride. Let that pride show through! My daughter was the Tiger Cub mascot for 3 years ending with they Natty in Tampa. Sometimes I think I was more excited about it than she was. I think you are right, as we get older we learn to appreciate these blessings. Go Tigers!

Clemson has meant everything to me. Gave me an education (BS ECE , MS ECE)that moved me from lower class to upper middle class life of joyous and well rewarding career. Go Tigers, and all the best to you and yours.
