Rick Barnes getting a very welcoming reception back at Texas

Jan 29, 2022, 8:20 PM

The nice reception for Rick in Austin made me wonder what kind of reception he'd get coming back to Littlejohn Coliseum.

I remember we played Tennessee a few years ago is some sort of exhibition or charity game but I think that game might have been in Knoxville.

Personally, I've always liked the guy and appreciated what he did when at Clemson. Standing up to Dean Smith made him a legend to me. Didn't care for how he left but that was a long time ago, so I don't hold that against him at this point.

One thing can be said about Rick; he loves all shades of orange.

Ole Rick did not take any chit from Dean Smith and the Refs.Even though he wasn't at Clemson that long 4 seasons to precise we should all be grateful for the way he took up for Clemson when it came to the tobacco road officiating and the way they called Clemson game, especially the one in Chapel Hill where Clemson finished the game with only 4 players left to play...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mae_MPnbA58

Barnes, at Texas, owned UNC. Texas owns UNC in basketball for some odd reason. UNC usually had better talent, but Texas seemed to beat them time after time.

Funny how every comment about that video

Rick Barnes. A man's man. In it to win it or at least compete strongly. I have a feeling current HC has requested and secured Coach K's and would have Coach Dean's autograph if he was coaching in Barnes' time.

Different era of masculinity. Thanks for the post and video.

As a Texas fan, I don't get it. He wasn't really popular when he was at UT and nobody even goes to games most of the time even with a good team. Barnes teams always choked in the tourney other than one season when he had sensational point guard TJ Ford. I don't think anybody really missed Barnes when he left so I don't get the reception.

He was there for 17 years. That is a long time to be at a program. Of course they miss him.

Will Clemson miss Brad Brownell after 17 years?
