We are saddened and heartbroken for the loss of Bert. A first-class individual who genuinely cared about you and never forgot a name. When I traveled from PA to Tigertown, he was one of the first folks I always visited and he always made time for me. When we made a planned gift a few years ago, he treated us like royalty (we didn't expect it), but that was Bert being Bert...loving, caring and compassionate. He drove us (mom, dad and wife) around on a golf cart with a tour of the athletic facilities that day. Because my dad, who has dementia, has trouble walking, Bert made sure we were given a prime parking spot for a game as well. He always asked about my parents on subsequent visits. I treasure the sit-down meeting I had with him the day before the Louisville game last season. It was a 30-40 minute conversation we had about our families. I shared with my wife how special that moment was, and it's even more special now. His smile and notable way he ended a lot of his sentences: "here's what I'm going to do...how's that?" will forever last with me. It was his way of saying "I care about you," and for that I am forever grateful to have known him as a friend. We love you Bert!

You can't listen to that Tiger Roar tribute and not be touched. Just beautiful.

my wife and i were stumphouse regulars in the late 70's/early 90's and we'd walk to the spot tigerroar was singing from and she'd sing "farewell to tarwathie"; a gorgeous old tune that makes me fall in love all over again..a beautiful song in that space is something special.

Tragic loss. Hope he's at peace and those he left behind remember the things about him they loved the most.

Bert was always pure class at IPTAY functions in Savannah, GA back in the day. A kind and easy to like man who supported everything Clemson. Hard to believe so much time has gone by ... prayers to his family.

This is such a wonderful tribute. Thank you for the article and the song !!!
My brothers and I shed a few tears yesterday. I hope his close friends will let his daughters know just how many lives he touched. Everyone here is spot on that he had the gift. Every path he crossed, he made you feel like you were the only one he cared about... Only special people have that gift.
We didn't know him personally but we remember fondly our late dad speaking about him and how much he helped him hang onto his season tickets and a good parking lot etc. I really don't remember the details but I just remember mom and dad discussing the finances long after iptay and tickets surpassed our budget and somehow Bert made it possible for us to get the tickets we needed.
Bert, now that you and your lovely bride have reunited in heaven, all of you can get together (my parents included) with the other Clemson family to enjoy the games from that place they call "Death Valley in the sky".
Peace be with you my brother, and to all that are Gone Too Soon.

Do not play that video unless you have a tissue handy.
The Clemson family grieves for the loss of a true Tiger.
