He's also impressed me as a better than average basketball point guard. I wonder how good he would have been in that sport as a full time player? (Well, maybe not for Martin!)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's an excellent athlete...can run by people on the court.

Jan 3, 2014, 12:06 PM [ in reply to Re: Just heard Bruce Ellington is going pro. Praise to the ]

But he's not a particularly great basketball player. He doesn't have a future as a b-ball player.

Re: He's an excellent athlete...can run by people on the court.

Jan 3, 2014, 12:10 PM

He might not have had a future in the NBA but if he would have stayed focused on basketball he most certainly would have had a career in basketball. There are far greater opportunities to make good money in basketball outside of the NBA. There are virtually none in football besides the NFL. He will be drafted outisde of the guaranteed money rounds and will not see a second contract in the NFL. He could have played European basketball for 15+ years.

I've watched him some...

Jan 3, 2014, 12:12 PM

I think you may be overestimating his b-ball abilities some.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I've watched him some...

Jan 3, 2014, 12:27 PM

He came in as a four star point guard with no football aspirations. He then switched to being a two sport player which totally interfered with his development as a basketball player. Obviously this discussion is hypothetical but I think he had much more upside as a basketball player than at football. I would agree that if you watched him play the last couple years then you would probably be inclined to say he is nothing special at basketball. But, he has also all but given up on basketball and put most of his focus in football. But he wasn't some bench player only meant to add depth to the basketball team. He was one of Horn's top recruits who has pretty much never practiced with the team off-season and has missed a 1/3 or more of every regular season in basketball.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I see what you mean. It's likely he loves football

Jan 3, 2014, 12:36 PM

More than he does basketball. We'll see what happens to him with the NFL. He's been pretty successful, sometimes against the odds, at every thing he's done, so I wouldn't bet against him.

I apologize but quick Coot question after Ellington declares

Jan 3, 2014, 12:02 PM

Has any Jr Coot player with ANY chance at the NFL draft every decided to come back to USuCk for his senior season? I can't think of a single one - if OBS is such a great leader of young men and Cootlumbia is great with its cockabooses and all - and that degree from the international business school is such an asset - why do NONE of their jr player EVER come back to finish?

Just a question I was pondering.

I believe Bruce has already graduated.

Jan 3, 2014, 12:05 PM

He really has no reason to come back, unless he just likes playing football for free.

"playing football for free" at usuck.....now, that IS funny!

It hurt Alshon's career

The coach has said that if they grade high enough, go. What's wrong with that? Sammy is leaving early as is Bryant. What's the big deal? Manziel only played 2 years

They are THE USC and THE University of South Carolina after all.

Alshon is already a borderline top 10 receiver in the NFL. His production may have gone down and he may have been drafted lower, but his payday's coming.

Re: I apologize but quick Coot question after Ellington declares

Jan 3, 2014, 12:31 PM [ in reply to Re: I apologize but quick Coot question after Ellington declares ]

For starters Alshon did NOT come back. He declared as a junior. Spurrier encourages players to enter if they are projected high enough. That's they way he has always been. Ellington will be missed but I heard the well they lost Engram, they lost Alshon, they lost their entire LB corp. They lost Ace and their DL. Now they lose Ellington, Shaw, and Clowney....not one of those players were on the team when our streak started. Clowney and Shaw were in high school. We just reload now....sorry but a fact is a fact.

Shaq Roland was the best player they had

Jan 3, 2014, 1:10 PM

at season end not named Shaw.

I thought he was the best player in our game with them and looked good in bowl as well. reminds me of Nuk.

Re: Shaq Roland was the best player they had

Remember Shaq Davidson from Gaffney and Deebo Samual from Chapman.

Samual was not the 4/5 Star players that got alot of recruiting love but he is the best high school player that I have seen since Lattimore.

Davidson if he stays healthy will be a beast.

shaq was suspended for 3 games for failing drug tests. how many do you have to fail in columbia. and the school had to suspend him. superior sure wasnt going to do it. woner how many strikes he has left.

Apparently the penalty at South Carolina for having Aderall without a prescription is harsher than at Clemson. An extra game without the moving violation and pot possession.
