TNET: Ticket prices dropping for Clemson-Alabama

Ticket prices dropping for Clemson-Alabama

It's Deja vu time as Clemson and Alabama will be facing off for the National Championship once again. So one would think that the title game would be playing cl Read Update »

The only reason people aren't going, and ticket prices are falling, is because the airlines are sticking it to us. I'd gladly pay $500 for a game ticket. But, $2000 on airfare is just killing the opportunity. I feel bad for those saps trying to sell tickets.

Do you feel bad for the guy in Tiger Tickets with 8 tickets for sale in the end zone asking for face value ($575) but willing to discuss “reasonable” offers, when StubHub has the same tickets for $230? I’m willing to bet if those tickets were $1500 on Stubhub, he’d be asking for $1500. I don’t feel especially sorry for him, or others who were looking to turn a quick profit.

What about the guy in section 246 who has 14 tickets for $2,200 each! I think he is smoking something.

Maybe the tickets come with few LBs of whatever he’s smoking....

Those are the main one that will deserve to take a serious beating, and not even recover what they invested, good for them, loving it!!! If they would have left those tickets where they bought them, they would be the ones that would have had to lower their prices, or use them to light their fire place. Any time the scammers get scammed, I love it!!! I hope that the air lines take a serious beating also, and if anybody deserves to take a serious loss, they do....

I can assure you it wasn’t $200 to get into the 2016 Championship game. Those tickets were the highest priced of all due to the Tampa Bay location being close to both schools.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed. That’s got to be an error. Those championship tickets were SUPER expensive.***

Clearly an error. I bought one for a client 2 days before the game and it cost me $2200. Upper deck corner nosebleed.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, I paid $3650 for two tickets on the 10 yard

line behind the Clemson bench in Tampa. The couple sitting beside me spent $4000 for their two tickets.

It was worth every penny.

I’m heading to Santa Clara, and my game tickets are face value. The hotel and plane fare, well, that totals around $5k

pretty sure they were talking about the AZ game

Jan 1, 2019, 9:44 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Ticket prices dropping for Clemson-Alabama ]

that was not a tough ticket out there.

$200 was the get in price at Arizona. For better seats, it was higher than that.

Which agrees with what I said. $200 was the cheapest seat. Average resale was $600.

They were actually a little cheaper if you looked around. I paid $150 a piece for 2 lower part of the upper deck about 30 yard line. What was even better is they were from an Alabama booster that sold me his lower deck endzone seats for Tampa for $800 apiece. Anyhow, I saw tickets being sold for as little as $100 apiece at the Arizona NCG.

I’m sure they meant Jan 2016 in Glendale- I spent $250 on my tickets.

There should be multiple sites available for the CPF Title

Jan 1, 2019, 10:05 PM

There should be no reason 2 teams from the South should have to travel 2500 miles away to watch the play. There should be options for teams to have at least one of their fan bases to have a close game....

The Number 1 seed should have a West Coast, Mid West, Central East coast Option to play for the national title. Alabama should have places like Atlanta, Tampa, Charlotte, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans as regional options if the West Coast is too far.

Exactly what I was thinking. Make it as centralized as possible for the two fan bases. Plenty of empty NFL stadiums available for use this time of year. I hate the Monday night just after the holidays, too. Make it a Saturday night and have the NFL play all their playoff games on Sunday.

They need to just tell them they are having it on a Saturday night, which broadcast station and stadium wants in?

A Monday night game a after all the holidays most people just took off makes it more difficult for some to travel.

The NCAA has been doing this stupid crap for a long time. I can remember in the late 80’s when Furman played Ga Southern in Pocatello, Idaho for the I-AA Football Championship. I am sure there are many ather examples.

They have played the basketball national championship on Monday for as long as I can remember. They don't have competition in the ratings for that one. Tough to understand why they do some things.

Re: TNET: Ticket prices dropping for Clemson-Alabama

Personally I think the semi-finals and the championship game are too close to each other. It's hard to plan a second trip (which pretty much can't be booked until the semis are over) so close to the first. Maybe with another week, the airlines would have more supply bringing prices down. As it is, a couple of airlines have added flights out of GSP obviously at premium prices.

yes

Jan 2, 2019, 11:35 AM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Ticket prices dropping for Clemson-Alabama ]

a few things.

NCAA has nothing to do with this playoff. It is the Playoff Committee (Power 5 conferences).

I tried to tell them a few years ago, it has to be on a Saturday or sunday night of MLK weekend). Give people time to plan, travel, etc. Thankfully next year it is mostly right. Semi-finals on December 28 and Finals on January 13th.

ESPN dictates it on a Monday night for ratings. ESPN controls the date and time. I have to believe a Saturday or Sunday would be just as big. Why not play it the Saturday before NFC/AFC Championship Sunday?

Re: TNET: Ticket prices dropping for Clemson-Alabama

Gouging? Come on! Remember your basic economics class.

In order to provide nonstop flights from GSP to SJ, the airlines have to divert craft from some other use, since there's not regular service. That costs them--real cost and opportunity cost. But they can only divert so many aircraft, and so that means there's quite possibly a much greater demand than there is supply. Price goes upward.

The airlines do their best to peg a price they think the market will swallow and that they'll make the most money on (which you would heartily approve of if you were a stockholder!). Since prices are in fact going down, they pegged it too high: the market won't pay the $2200 round trip fare. That's a manifestation of consumer sovereignty. But prices will only go down to the point that the airlines still make whatever level of profit on the flights/seats they feel is a minimum. If people don't buy at that point, the flights will be canceled.

What did you expect? The airlines to give away seats? The decision-makers at the airlines are people just like you and me. And we've always had the option of changing planes in ATL, CLT, or ORD for a normal fare.

Go Tigers!

CFP should get called out by the AD's and School presidents. Thats the only way anything will change. So as a fan base direct your angst at the Clemson AD and School President.

There are only 2 schools with this particular problem, Clemson and Alabama.

Good new is next year is in New Orleans, if we are lucky enough to make that it's regional.

For all the complainers; you figure out how to do it if you think its that easy logistically to set these games up. It's not.

As for gauging... don't limit yourself to airlines, have you seen hotel prices?

The CFP is not affordable for the fanbase or students. It's for TV money not for us...

And there are people who want to add another game????? Nuts.
