I find it really unfortunate that some people here blame the players

for transferring.
Every player who transfers gets criticized by at least one person (and usually many) for being selfish and bailing on the team for transferring.
First of all, I believe scholarships are renewed every 6-12 months. They are not 3-4 year contracts.
Second, the NCAA has allowed players to transfer without penalty.
Third, sometimes coaches fail to properly develop a player or mentor him when he’s struggling off the field.
Fourth, sometimes players have personal issues that are more important than football.
And fifth, these are young men who are still figuring out life and learning to be an adult. Sometimes there are growing pains and sometimes interests and desires change. That needs to be okay.
I understand that it’s frustrating to lose a player we had high hopes for, or who was expected to contribute in the future. But please stop with this criticism of these young men for not being dedicated or for bailing on the team. These young men make huge sacrifices to play a sport and you can’t blame them for wanting to be in a situation that seems better for them and their future.

I don’t recall ever stating that a basketball player was selfish

or bailed on the team.
I expressed surprise or confusion that a player transferred, but I didn’t question their character or devotion.
Why do you make every one of my posts about basketball? It’s really petty and diminishes your credibility.

Clemson (Dabo) recruits players until they graduate. If we make a recruiting mistake, it’s on us, not the player. We honor our commitments, some players do not. But, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I still believe that integrity pays off.

But what you’re leaving out is that part of their integrity is being honest with a player when it’s not working out. They aren’t going to revoke a scholarship, but they absolutely are going to tell a guy if they don’t see him getting playing time. They will encourage players to look elsewhere if they don’t see things working out as planned.

right out and say that he was transferring because he and the coaches had done a thorough evaluation of his progress, and he was told flat out that he was not going to get much if any playing time here.
Instead, all we usually get is, "I am transferring, please respect my decision."

It is sometimes the players fault/lack of maturity

and sometimes some of the factors that you mention. Almost all of those critical of the players have absolutely no idea what it takes to compete at the collegiate level. Even though I have 2 varsity letters I can not say that I have a clue what it takes today to play at the level today.
With the NIL and transfer portal some of them are trying for the best chance to live their dream of being a pro star, making big dollars (some of them hoping to lift their family up). Some of them just get "out recruited" and want to go somewhere that they will get a chance to play, and I don't blame them for that if they are being realistic about playing beyond college. While scholarships are renewable I don't know of instances where they have not been renewed at Clemson (there may be some), but in football I have seen that Dabo meets with each player at the end of the season for a discussion regarding future development. If each position coach isn't doing the same thing they should be.
In short in almost all cases I'd agree with you, but not knowing all the facts in any of the cases, it is hard to believe the player is never at fault. Does this mean that keyboard coaches have a right to make disparaging comments, no it doesn't, it just shows their ignorance.

But that didn’t start when they were at Clemson. They were likely always that way.
My point is that it is unfair to paint everyone who transfers with the broad brush of being self-centered. I think the best approach is to thank them for their efforts and wish them the best.

What kind of denial muyst you be in not not see the obvious? Do you honestly believe big stinko is 'the man'??? You'd have to be as biased as "big dave" to think this.
Judging by your attitude I'm reasonably positive I have been a Clemson supporter before you made your first trip around the sun.

I don’t care how old you are, lol. That doesn’t define loyalty nor does it represent class or lack there of. As old as you say you are and as a long time supporter of Clemson you should have the common sense, let alone pride, to know disparaging any player that wears MY alma maters Orange is garbage. You garbage or are you going to take back your trashy-ass post? Go-head now.

I don't blame players for doing what they are allowed to do. If theft was legalized tomorrow (as it already basically has been in parts of the country) I wouldn't be mad at people doing the stealing, I'd be mad at those who allowed it to happen and that's where we are with the portal and the free for all that college football is becoming. The days of getting a commitment are over. Every player on the team is basically here on a one year (or less) agreement and can terminate that agreement at any time they wish. Good luck with that.

When cj spiller attended here. He seemed to have personal issues and a desire to leave Clemson but stuck it out and look where it has taken him. If portal existed who knows where his path would have led him.
Not saying it would be like that for all players if they kept battling but 70 percent of portal entrants are not picked up. At some point you have to choose your hard and as dabo says “bloom where u are planted”. Leaving the current field does not seem to be creating a more fruitful harvest in most situations

I do not blame the players at all - Reference TP; we were told he could not play due to injury, and early on I’m sure it was. However, why would he want to ride the bench later in the season playing second fiddle to a QB that could not consistently hit an open receiver, and most times looked completely clueless to the plays being run? It’s great we have some great RB’s but .. we have no chance without a balanced offense that can pass.
I watched the Daniel game yesterday - their passing game is better than ours. A QB that can throw the ball and WR’s that can go up and catch it. Loses to Pitt, Nancy State and GA, near losses to BC and GA Tech prove that a great D can’t win games by themselves.
Hopefully better assistants (QB, WR and an OC that can call something other than bubble screens and runs up the middle. 3 down 11 - a run up the middle, 4 down and 1 - a deep throw. We won’t win our side of the ACC if thing remain the same next year.
